Honestly, it does work as an alto solo. Both myself (a Mezzo-soprano) and my friend (an alto) can both easily sing this.

A lot of Mozart's soprano pieces are easily written in Mezzo range (such as this one, his Coronation Mass Agnus Dei, his Laudate Dominum from his Vespers, etc.)
