What I love about this number is the sheer contrast of it all. Salieri's reaction to Mozart's "What did you think" was basically "Eh, I guess it's fine." but all the while he's had basically a braingasm resulting in a musical number with bisexual BDSM panic undertones.
@vladimirserdyuk6795 Жыл бұрын
Dont panic. It's natural. So dont lose your reason!)))

This! It becomes a consistent theme with Salieri throughout the musical, all his songs include contrast: L'Assasymphonie and Le Bien qui fait Mal both put the idea of "admiration" against the idea of "jealousy" (they are very similar in structure too, with the lighting especially going from warm reds to a calmer blue as he seems to calm down during both songs) while Victime de ma Victoire and Vivre à en Crever both contrast his feelings and those of others (in Victime de ma Victoire, evryone tells him he should be happy but he realizes that, in the long term, he lost and can't help but despair about it while in Vivre à en Crever Mozart seems to have made peace with the idea he was going to die while Salieri struggles more). LBQFM is absolutely perfect for it, as it establishes this trend all while moving the story forward. Everything about its place in the musical is simply brilliant. On my first watch, I missed the BDSM "connotation" of the song entirely, the dancers, to me, being the perfect representation of Mozart music: you've got multiple groups, doing different things that, in their own, are great but together, all the group "harmonize" and find their place together on the stage. This is an interpretation that was also discussed by one of the main choreographer... Anyhow, I could spend literal HOURS discussing why the song in its context is an absolute masterpiece but it's not really the point, the point is that you're absolutely right and I'm happy to see people discuss it haha

Gosh, everyone is so head over heels with Salieri, but can we just appreciate the dancers for a minute? It is insane how talented they are and how smoothly everything goes
