So many layers of intrigue masked by a feeling of overpowering grandeur...great Mozart was able to simultaneously convey conflicting emotions, pride ironically mingled with covert shame and drama...everything masterfully conveyed by Abbado in a performance that has got it all... Bravo!

Comparing Bernstein, Barenboim and Abbado here on KZbin: Bernstein, frenetic, a mess. Barenboim, elegant but stodgy. Abbado, elegant and brilliant--absolutely best. Such a "transparent" work--so hard to bring off its glory.(Interesting that Abbado insists on staccato 1/16 notes.)

Mozart ha scritto un sacco, a parte eine kleine Nachtmusik (Una piccola serenata notturna). Personalmente trovo magnifiche le opere in cui collaborò col librettista Da Ponte. Il suo ultimo lavoro, un Requiem rimasto incompiuto, è una perla che riassume e chiude una carriera molto breve ma estremamente intensa. Mozart è e resta uno dei miei compositori preferiti
