Hey guys! It's a bit unusual that we're posting classical music on this channel, but we thought you guys might like this one! :) Marnie first played this piece when she was about 7 years old. It's been one of her favorites ever since and she thought it would be a fun one to record for her solo album. If you like this video, please head over to our other channel, Brooklyn Classical and subscribe there - we'll be posting lots of classical videos in the next few weeks and we'd love for you to join us! As we mentioned, you can hear this piece on Marnie's solo album, along with more favorites by Beethoven, Chopin, Brahms, and Debussy. Check out the links in the description, or find the album anywhere you get your music (just type in "Brooklyn Classical"). Thanks so much...we hope you enjoy it! We'll see you this weekend for a regular Brooklyn Duo video :)

I was going to ask "about how long does it take to prepare a performance like this?" The answer "since I was 7" makes a lot of sense! Back in college I took a watercolor class and the instructor would always do a quick demonstration at the beginning of class. In about 5 or 10 minutes he'd do some amazing watercolor and whenever someone said "wow! and in only five minutes!" he'd say "Well, five minutes plus 40 years of painting everyday."

When I asked KZbin for the Alla Turca it came up with at least 15 options by different musicians; this rendition was by far the most beautiful. Clearly phrased and articulated, a real pleasure to listen to. Thank you Marnie and whoever posted it.
@bikkies5 жыл бұрын
I'm heartened to see phrasing and articulation being duly recognised. It's one thing to play the notes mechanically; you can program them into a machine. It's something quite different and sublime to have the ability to phrase the work, vary the touch, the pace, the tone; to invoke dynamism, to make the instrument sing with more than just the touch of your fingers. To make each recital unique and to make it your own. That requires the touch of passion, dedication, commitment and pure hard graft. I lack these attributes and that's why I can play what's written on the staves but I fall short on understanding and expressing what the ink on the page is truly trying to say.

For all the people who wish they could play like her, you can. Sweat it out, pour everything you have into it if you really want it, and you will come out like this, it dosnet take twenty years, just a couple years of absolutely sweating it. I managed this in a year by sweating every day and people said I had no life and stuff but now they respect the effort I put in. And I promise you guys, this is possible and I was all you aspiring pianists and musicians the best of luck in your musical journey and just keep the fact that this is possible in your heart. This is by far the best version of this piece I’ve heard, and like everyone else on this planet I’ve heard it done a hundred times by a hundred different performers.
@@marianmatei1138: Thank you for the suggestion. In my opinion, Paul Bart’s version is technically good but very staccato and lacking in dynamics, probably because he does not seem to use the sustain pedal to good effect, if at all. Marnie Laird’s version is still the best I’ve heard by far.
@marianmatei11383 жыл бұрын
@@rayray8687 I really doubt it. His Feurich piano has 4 pedals, not only 3 as usual, and he is very specific in the description about using them (In this recording I used the 4th harmonic pedal only invented by Denis de La Rochefordière.). But, anyway, I'm not a professional musician, so you may be right.
@rayray86873 жыл бұрын
@@marianmatei1138: Again, thanks for the additional information - I admit I didn’t read the description before listening to the piece, but in the end it explains the lack of dynamics and ‘feel’ in Mr Bart’s version, either due to a lack of ability to use the pedals and hand dynamics, or due to an over-reliance on the 4th pedal to do all…which it obviously (to me) does not. Just for the record, I am a musician but I’m not a pianist - I just hear what I hear.
