hate to sound harsh, but Chang's lead playing has always seemed questionable; i'm wary of following any of his lessons on improv as he really seems to struggle to do it with any feeling and just spews out arpeggios. fair enough if he has great aural skills and can intellectualize all day long about the style of rhythm playing, but when he plays a solo it's so flat from a energy/feeling perspective, accentuated even more when he plays with his many famous musician friends (who he likes to FB post about so much in long rants about how people don't get this kind of music or some kind of technique or whatever :D)
