He opened the trail to Curren and Slater with an unique inspiration. He was the first BEST!

He's still my all-time favourite surfer. He surfed so smoothly and gracefully. No one could ever match his subtlety on a wave. He was the Michaelangelo of surfing. No one even came close to him (including Kelly) 🤙

MP, my hero growing up as a grom and when morning of the earth came out seeing Michael on the big screen☺️. Incredible waterman!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! RIP big fella✌️❤️

Hearing his mom speaking about him made me shed a tear. He was like the Van Gogh of surfing.

differently the Van Gough of surfing and undervalued by the surfing Industry like all great Artists they take advantage of the vulnerable. You are great Michael. 🙏🙏

1970 ,Lennox head ,mid winter ten foot plus perfect waves ,Nat young ,Wayne lynch. George Greenough all out carving , Micheal turns up ,and was by far the best surfer that day. That day proved to me he was the king , and I had a lot of respect for Micheal, as he actually shared a lot of waves with me , particularly when kirra reef was breaking left for awhile , God bless Micheal and his family

Grew up a few years younger than MP but I feel blessed to have watched him whenever there was waves. Legend with a capital L

Michael Peterson had a unique flow and grace and no amount of contemporary airborne wankery comes close to his legacy. Gerry Lopez was also amazing.

That generation were to hard to reach by governments and truly free I remember reading how Tom Carroll and a few went to bells early to try and beat him and MP showed up a few hours before the event and smashed everyone

He was way ahead of the pack. Free surfing, contests big surf small surf he dominated. This created a lot of jealousy and the rest of the elites had no answer to his brilliance. Plus he was not from Witzig ville he was from the down to earth Kirra hood.

His mother seems creepy about his fame . Was he not enough ad just another human ? Australian media seems so bizarre as well. Rabbit Wayne Bartholomew also seems odd - what the bleep. Surfing is for most healing and good. Perhaps surfing for money is the idea we must look into .
