This episode is crazy for me because the first thing I did is turn OFF my MPC 2000 XL and made a beat using the MPC studio software. This is a new world for me. I breakdown an entire beat I made in the MPC studio step by step. Drums, bass, composing a sample free beat and how I make VST's sound a little dirtier using amazing plug ins from Universal Audio & Native Instruments. enjoy!

Same here. Ive been playing music my entire producing career and I rely heavily on reference apps to get modes right when Writing. Every instrument has its own set of skills and voices... Ill never be able to master all of them.

I love how you're all about the feel, not just theory, but also learning as you go....I feel that makes for more soulful tunes. That was powerful presentation MP on how being stuck in a rut can be the death of an artist such as your self. I like the way you put away the MOC 2500 down to experience working different platforms and machines. I'm a user of the MPC Studio silver. I tend to stick to the mix up of sampling and midi keyboards. I'm a fan of the classic sample based boom bap sound but sometimes I find myself breaking out the keyboard and try to experiment with some synth sounds. I then add the drums and hats from the MPC to complete my beats. Sometimes I'll use a sample as a base sound and then play some bass or some strings from keys. Either way there are different ways to be creative with your gear. You can't go wrong with any MPC. By the way that beat is dope, love that bass synth.

Glad to see you using the MPC software I am a long time studio one user and MPC live user and from testing and messing around, the MPC software can handle more plug-ins without pops and clicks and the MP3 bounce down is slightly higher quality than from studio one and is a little louder Now I pretty much just use studio one for it’s hit points to stretch sample so I can chop them in the MPC Live, Love the video’s keep making them!!!

You should look into the new standalone units like the X, Live mk2, and one. The one is only 700 bucks and can pretty much do everything the X can do. The X also has a full blown audio interface with phantom power built in. I was gonna get the MPC studio black, then I decided I'm sick of being tied to a computer so I ordered the ONE. Two weeks later I ordered the X and the Roland JDXI synth. The goal with the JDXI is to create my own unique keygroup and drum expansion packs. So many things you can do with MIDI and CV with those things it's amazing they aren't like 3 times more expensive.

An abject lesson in there's no wrong way to be creative. I do come from a musical background more from guitar than piano but I still play a bit. I find myself using Cthulu from time to time not because I 'need to' exactly but because it takes me in directions that I might not otherwise and produces super interesting results.

Hey, sorry for the out of topic but has anyone had the problem where the studio black goes in a kind of demo mode where everything is blinking and cannot operate? Tried different cables and even different computer with a fresh instal. Was originally on Mac on High Sierra running 2.0 soft with problem. Thx
