This footage, which is in different sections, shows funeral activities for former president Harry S. Truman at the Truman Library in Independence, MO, December 27, 1972. It has mostly wild sound capturing the atmosphere outside of the Library. A military band performs near the Library, as the Truman family and clergy enter the Library to pay their respects. Margaret Truman Daniel and the extended Truman and Wallace families are escorted to their cars after paying their respects. Former president Lyndon B. Johnson, former first lady Lady Bird Johnson, and their family arrive by limo to pay their respects, then leave. Then the helicopter carrying President Richard Nixon and First Lady Pat Nixon is shown in the air, subsequently their limo arrives at the Library.
This footage was originally recorded by local Kansas City television station KCMO-TV and donated to the Truman Library. KCMO's successor, KCTV-5, is allowing the Truman Library to post this footage. Users should seek permission to use this footage from KCTV.
