One thing that's great about having multiple kits of the same subject matter, Is getting to experience the kit in different ways by building multiple versions.

Yes! I agree! I have been asked why I buy 2 or three of the same kit. I usually just say that I don't have to build them all the same way!

Thank you very much! This one did take some time to build. I did start this with a glue bomb 72 GTO! That one I started with cutting the roof off and reshaping the quarters. then fitting the chassis. It's body was junk but it was just the "can I do this" car. Then this 70 kit with the damaged A pillar came my way.

Beautiful build! Pontiacs are my favourite, so it's great to see one built and detailed so good. I used the olds chassis on the MPC 1967 GTO and it worked out perfect. Hope you will post the other older GTOs from your collection.

Thank you! I have already posted a AMT 64 GTO, MPC 68 GTO conv and the 70 GTO Judge hardtop. That actually completes all of my built GTO's. I have many more to build. I have a few finished Grand Prix and Firebirds to still show plus many others!

Beautiful GTO and great job on the convertible conversion. I need to find an AMT 72 GTO to try my hand at a convertible conversion. I guess they would be basically the same kit as the MPC annuals? I see on ebay someone has resin 70 GTO parts to convert a 72 kit with the wing, no interior parts though.
@TheMuscleCarModeler4 жыл бұрын
Thanks! They are the same and I actually started this conversion with a 72 GTO glue bomb that I had. I cut the roof off and did the reshaping just to see if it would look good or not. Then I used it to see if the 69 Olds parts would fit. Then I bought a reissue 72 and started converting it into a 71 GTO convertible. Then this 70 kit came along and was a perfect project. My Other 71 GTO conv is not done and it won't get this much detail.

@@TheMuscleCarModeler So you have all the years covered! Will be nice to see them all lined up when you get them done. I forgot to mention how much I like the super detailing on this one. I've never done it, and I know you will never see it if it just sits on the shelf. It would be nice to do that on one or two models that have a special place in my heart.

Ram air 4's were under rated by the factory and were a pretty potent engine,,, where as the Ram air 3's were more of a street tamed docile engine. In the mid 80's I built up a 455 with a Ram air 4 blueprint cam, .30 pistons and round port heads. That was a torquey engine in my 69 GTO. Shifting into 2nd or 3rd gear felt like you were getting hit in the rear end by a freight train. One of the fastest cars in my town was a tunnel rammed LS6-70 Chevelle, and he could only keep up with me in 1st gear. Another friend of mine had a SS 396 Nova, he floored it from a set green lights and I was able to keep up with him just by bunny hopping my car on and off the gas. The problems with Pontiacs were thier bore stroke ratios and long rods which put a lot of stress on the rods and the cylinder walls. So pretty common to take rods and cranks out if them.
@TheMuscleCarModeler4 жыл бұрын
Thank you! I would loved to have driven one! I know they were underrated but that is so underrated that you would think Pontiac didn't want to sell them! I forgot to mention that the Ram Air IV cars got steeper gears as part of the package! Sometimes I redo a video a few times and forget something in the next take.

My understanding is that Pontiac marketed the Ram Air IV motor like this intentionally. Apparently, the intent was to way under-rate the HP significantly to avoid the wrath of Insurance Companies & the Government. Those “in the know” knew what it was, and were happy to pay the additional cost.
@TheMuscleCarModeler4 жыл бұрын
A lot of the manufacturers underrated their products but Pontiac really did on this one!
