When you record a sample where does it live with in the MPC LIve? When you record a sample in a project and switch to another project how do you access the recently recorded sample?

I got mine about two weeks ago it's hot, I also have the mpc touch, however, the MPC Live is a better device. it doesn't depend on my computer. I can go anywhere to inspire me to make a hot track, backyard basement, even when I travel to the china. Only problems is the computer software need clarity, and I want to be able to transmit files through Bluetooth or wifi. I do have Native Instrument as well however it not a stand alone unit.

It's a great video man! I bought my mpc live a few weeks ago and one of the things i thought that i could do was to start sample some records and save the files to open it in another moment from different projects. I still cannot do that. how do you save just the sample files without start a project? I made a project with some samples but i can't open that samples from other projects because i can't find it.. Help!!

you want to save the save the samples only ? create an xpj file it will save the samples

yes but it save the samples in a project, i want to save the samples to a folder in standalone mode

OK... Now how would I save that back into the MPC Live itself to use away from the computer? This evening I was trying to figure it out how to build a kit with samples on my computer's hard drive, then save it to the MPC Live but when I shift back to 'Standalone' mode it restarts the MPC. Your video is great but stops right before a key point - how to get that program you've created over into the MPC. (edited for clarity)

you mean from an external drive ? its easy you just select the external drive that connected in the USB port like this .. MENU / BROWSER / PLACES / and select your external drive or " internal " for those saved inside the mpc ;)

First off, thank you my man for the quick reply! I'm just hoping to do what I used to do with my MPC 3000 and a Mac OS utility that could build MPC programs on my Mac with samples collected on my Mac HD. After you had it dialed, the utility could create a floppy disk of a program and samples that could be read by the MPC 3000. Obviously, I don't need a floppy anymore haha but I did love the convenience of naming and building the programs on my computer, then loading into my MPC, then saving it to the hard drive connected to my MPC. This new MPC Live is amazing and there's massive convenience of course, but I really just want to use the MPC 2.2 software to build programs, then sync the program and samples to the MPC Live directly over the USB connection so that when I turn on the standalone MPC later, the program is saved on the MPC internal harddrive. But it seems like the MPC in controller mode (not 'Standalone') is really almost turned off and can't see its own harddrive or sample engine, and it's acting like a Maschine or Push controller. I'll figure it out eventually, with the help of videos like yours. Thanks and keep up the excellent vids. EDIT: After a few more hours of research and experimentation, it seems the key is to have a second drive in your MPC Live. The easiest way to do what I want is to have either a second drive in the MPC's SATA bay or an external thumbdrive plugged into the back USB port. This allows the MPC Live drive to show up on my Mac while the MPC internal drive does not. Yes, the MPC 2.2 software sees the MPC hardware as a controller, but not as a usable hardrive to save to. I put a USB thumbdrive in the back of my MPC Live for this experiment to keep it quick. Connecting the MPC Live to my Mac via USB, then entering 'controller' mode, the MPC 2.2 software/my Mac then sees the MPC Live as the USB thumbdrive in the finder. Then I save the program I built on the computer in MPC 2.2 to the thumbdrive through the MPC 2.2 software - it collects the samples I assigned to pads, saves the program, and any beat sequencing I did. Now I can disconnect the MPC from my computer, restart the MPC Live in 'standalone' mode, and load my program from the thumbdrive - I eject the thumbdrive and save the program again to the internal drive - all good! I think I'll install a second SATA drive into the Live but for the time being, the thumbdrive does the trick. I know this may seem obvious or unnecessary to some people out there, but maybe someone will find it useful, so I'll leave this comment up.

You can see internal sounds and saved programs even in standalone mode. Standalone mode works the same as when you have it controller mode just no software and a limited amount of audio tracks. Your samples you can have them on a usb drive or usb connection. Correct it has an port on the bottom where you can connect a hard drive of your choice.

how exactly did you get the sample to play at any part by touching the screen? i have 2.2 and it only starts when i hit a pad. I'm talking about scanning/skimming through the entire sample with your finger btw. I'm thinkin maybe you can only do that in controller mode, because I can't find a way to do that in standalone mode

you can have the default preferences set up in a manner that best suites you. MPC is very flexible and user friendly to do what you are requesting is very simple in the preferences menu my friend ;)

Better than the current maschine software and controller ? Yes. The built in sound card peripherals is amazing along with the nice touch screen display. The software currently at 2.1 has features that are beyond the current maschine software and hardware. However NI & Akai are at 2 different states in a companys production. When Native Instruments releases their touch screen model and software we can go from there with a answer with a reasonable comparison.

People need to understand this is a standalone....machine is not ..you need a computer to make beats with it

Coming from the DAW world, the MPC has been one big headache for me until now. I feel that the workflow leads to interesting results and I really want to get into it but the learning curve is pretty steep and the MPC world is not the most intuitive.

Does anyone know how to safely eject a jump drive/ external hard drive from MPC Live?

you have to go to menu , browser , places then press the arrow to eject your drive. press eject and it will disappear from the display.
