For those that don't know, this set was made "small" on purpose so that the train modes fit with HO scale model trains, because model trains are a pretty popular hobby in Japan, so TakaraTomy is trying to appeal to both audiences. Transformers is also a bit of a dying hobby in Japan, outside of the adult collector base, from what I've been able to see over recent years, so making them scale with model trains might also be an attempt to expand their reach with products that fit somewhat into other hobbies. Whether or not it was intentional, this actually makes the robot modes in-scale with the rest of the MP figures, because in the cartoon, the Trainbots were based more on a real-world scale in vehicle mode, but their robot modes were fairly tiny in comparison, being only the size of the Scramble City limb-bots, which are only a head taller than than the Autobot Cars (such as Jazz, Sideswipe, Tracks etc.), which are 4 meters tall. Making them fit the cartoon and HO scales does, however, make the combined form of Raiden pretty small, since Raiden's knee is meant to be a few meters above the height of the leader-type characters (Optimus Prime, Megatron, Rodimus Prime, etc.), which are 6 meters tall, but the combined mode of this set is roughly Combiner Wars combiner-sized, which is far too small for cartoon scale with other MPs. Needless to say, the Trainbots - much like the rest of the combiners in the G1 cartoon continuity - are victims of mass-shifting between all of their modes, so making an accurate toy to fit all of these scales, is pretty much an impossible feat to achieve. But yeah, just thought I'd share some knowledge for the people who didn't know and don't have access to cartoon model scale charts etc. At the end of the day, it's your toy, do whatever you want with it! (P.S. I won't argue that this set has been a bit of an engineering flop, I've heard of a lot of QC issues with several of the figures released so far, and the combined mode looks kinda bad. It has far too much kibble hanging off of it and looks kinda awkward to even attempt to pose. The robot and train modes look pretty cool, though).

@@jasonswitzer1748 more or less. the full Raiden is about the size of CW combiners, so a head-ish shorter than Legacy Menasor.

The minor issue is that these are only HO scaled with none of the functionality to work at that scale so they won't work with pre-existing HO displays

yeah thats a great idea but the wheel trucks dont turn. my copy of this one wont stay on its track. also one or two of this set have track that more narrow than HO.

God this set does not know what it wants to be, after all these years you'd think takara would have a better grasp on making a functional combiner, this shows they still have a ways to go.

I feel like the partsforming front of the train gives rise to a different problem, the arm looks hilariously short and there's barely any space between the shoulder pads and the forearm.

That's been the case for all of these. It's been a gamble on getting these and not have to return them of have the break at a later date past the time you purchased them. By far the most lackluster Takara release to date.

Was a bit meh on this one at first but fiddling with him for a few days I've got used to the quirks and I quite like him now. Not as good as Shouki but pretty solid. Wish the chest panels locked in place though. I appreciate how simple the legs are after Yukikaze. I've barely played around with that one cos the legs just pop apart all the time. One thing with Suiken I've been doing is angling the combined mode fist sideways at the back with the index finger and thumb running flush down his back. Sits in a bit further and neater that way.

I had to bail out of these trainbots. Shouki was great, but I had to get a replacement Getsuei because he had a messed-up hinge that wouldn’t allow him to form Raiden’s foot properly. And then my Yukikaze had the snapped-knee issue, and BBTS didn’t have any replacements at the time so I just returned him. These guys are too expensive to have so many QC issues and I don’t want to spend hundreds more dollars on them. So my team will remain incomplete.

Land Cross is too complex tbh especially if they want to keep the gimmick of the team, meaning designing 6 robots who can turn into vehicles, the upper or lower body of a two member combiner and then a part of a 6 member Combiner.

Actually the train does not fit on the tracks - every review shows that Takara botched this. They are giving tracks that are the wrong width for the train and they are doing it every time probably because they reused the tracks from MPG-02 without making sure this release would fit on them.
