@@mixingwithmike when turning up the 'makeup gain' in manual setting, i notice the GR meter increase (obviously i'm watching the VU meter in GR setting). Kind of odd for a makeup gain. Do you get that too? Is it just a matter of the visualization behaviour on the GR meter being shown wrong? If this does push more gain into the input stage, it's not a makeup gain and it becomes impossible to AB within one instance of the plugin?

How does it compare to the waves version? I know the sidechain and release controls are different, plus it has mix button.

Did I miss something or does this not have a control for the variable release? I think the original has it and UAD has it too. That would be a dealbreaker for me tbth. I love the variable release control especially on the 2500 to tweak it to make it really transparent sounding

There is only the variable release, they dropped the stepped release for variable only which makes sense for a plugin.

@@NoQualmsTheArtist I think you don't really understood what I was saying. A variable release on an API is basically an Autorelease which is program dependant. You are talking about stepped controls I think

@@joost3783 on the original API 2500 there is a stepped release when turned all the way to the right activates the variable release. The SBC release is basically just the variable release, they ditched the stepped release knob. So you can dial in the exact release you want like every other digital compressor.

Maybe I don't know how an API 2500 works I've only used one thousands of times 🤷🏾‍♂️

I haven't used this one, but the UAD is incredible and lives on my drum buss and mix buss (more for tone/glue along with the Elysia Alpha).

UAD sounds more solid and punchy (low end enhancement and thick punch). The SBC is better than the Waves or DMG 2k5 to me because it adds more caracter and attitude to the source but it's still not as good as the UAD (and I ain't a UAD fanboy at all).

I prefer the UAD version. This Lindell doesn't sound bad, but things sound too chocked fairly quickly. The UAD sounds compressed with lots of smack but at the same time the sound is more open. This Lindell has some great features though. Good thing with the UAD is you don't need the DSP for their Api 2500 and although I am not their biggest fan, they did do a great job with the Api2500.

Thank you all for your input. With voucher, can get the lindell for $50 or the uad for $75 with coupon. Think I will go the $25 extra for UAD. Api 2500 has always been one of my favorite VCA compressor sounds. The transient shaping and smack is exactly my kind of taste.

Although this one is very good, I would probably lean toward the UAD version.

I think the NUKE button was inspired by the mods on Michael Brauer 2500 unit. I remember him showing it, the video is somewhere here in youtube or maybe MWTM series.

This one is now added to my buss compressors, now I have different flavors to choose from, great plugin. Lindell is pretty much my favorite brand, I have all the 500 series. Which are also incredible. Also, the fast response of the VU meter is a big advantage, for me.

This is a great compressor and very cool emulation. Those VU meters are great. It would be nice to be able to switch between a more accurate gain reduction display, similar to Unfiltered Audio's ZIP compressor, but other than that a powerful plug-in!

Is this different than the Lindell 50 series VCA compressor?

Yes. Lindell 50 is a channel strip, whereas SBC is only a compressor.

Both are API compressors but different models were emulated

Very similar. The Channelstrip version is based on the 2500 without the Thrust, Medium Knee setting. Nuke mode, Mix control, S/C filter. Sort of a striped down version of the 2500.

The Waves version is actually pretty good, imo, but this one is going to get used more for me, at least in the short term to really evaluate it. In the places I’ve used it, or replaced the Waves one with it, I’m liking the Lindell more. Previously, the Waves version has found itself on most of my drum busses, and I’ve liked it a lot - so much so that between how much I like it and this new Lindell one, it’s obvious to me that I just need to save up and get a real hardware API 2500 😂

Better than the Waves version which is also very good BTW. I have been using the UAD version for stereo mix compression and Waves for individual tracks. Now I have to reconsider both with the Lindell version.

Pa didn't make me buy their plugin, because Waves is better imo A pretty embarrassing example that pa is not able to compete with a very very old plugin

Would love a video on the Comprexxor (Distressor) by IK if you like that one ofc otherwise it makes no sense. You can get it via a survey for free atm I think many people are getting it and I really think it's such a great piece of software. You mention that you often time it with the tempo of the track. Could this have been a feature, as that would really speed up workflow?

Yes, I have the same question. If I have the API 50 channel strip, is this necessary? How does it compare to the Townhouse?

Yes you do need it and it sounds different from the Townhouse and the controls are different so you get more options with shaping the sound

The 50 Series VCA comp is a stripped down version of the 2500 but not a replacement for it IMO. Townhouse is warmer and less aggressive than the SBC, also far less flexible.

The SSL E/G Buss compressors set a standard for all VCA mix bus compressor designs that followed. By the same token, all VariMu compressors get compared to the Fairchild 670, Opto compressors compared to the Teletronix LA-2A, Bridge Diode Compressors to the Neve 2254 and all FET compressors compared to the 1176.

I have not done a full on shootout between the 2 but my quick A/B leaned UAD. There's a crispness to the UAD emulation that is lacking a bit in this version
