I see other people came from the Manchester by the Sea trailer. This is one of my favorite songs at the moment, can't wait for the movie.
Philip Knight , Ian not seeing many comments that have discerned where these lyrics were inspired. It is based on several Old Testament biblical stories of the Jews trek through the Valley of the Bones, the ruse used to enter the town of Jericho, and the crossing of the river Jordan into the Promised Land. Even the line about changing names is part of those stories. But, it was cleverly and powerfully done and touches my soul, even though I am no longer church oriented. The line about the threshing floor is also biblical. Separating the wheat from the chaff. Purification of the soul. I play this song often.

I've been listening to this song and your other works for almost 3 years now, and I gotta say that this is one of my favorite songs of all time. almost always I cry my eyes to tears when I hear the bridge and the line "I saw the city through my tears". It's amazing how a song can still do this to me every time for 3 years. no other song has done this to me, thank you and please make more music.

There is almost a growing force in this album and it is quickly becoming one of my all time favorites. I feel that artists are the vehicle that great art flows through, the relayer. I came here by way of Jake Rides Away's trip by motorcycle around the United States. He brilliantly used this as he rode back into New York after a 29 day grueling journey on a bike that is definitely not made for touring. The "I'm coming home" refrain comes just as he's riding back into Brooklyn.

@Matthew Perryman Jones ""Art is contemplation of the world in a state of grace." ~ Hermann Hesse ♫ PROGRESSION OF A SOAR ♫ - While my life-long disability and other factors cut short my ever succeeding at being a singer-songwriter-guitarist and multi-instrumentalist, I got "bit" by music back in the mid-60s, was drawn to the progressive, expansive, at times symphonic rock that has been created over the decades. Melody matters, arrangement matters, sonic and lyrical soaring matters - to me. It is rare that a track "gets to me" for I'm picky in that way. All are present in this creation by you. I barely caught your track on a trailer of Manchester by the Sea - but knew I HAD to find and buy it. And am grateful I did. Kudos to you. As many have remarked the "finale" crescendo "II am coming home..." is masterful, moving, and speaks to a deeper longing within all of us. Each of us feel exiled in the struggles of life, of needing to come-home, in whatever ways resonate with us. All good art has a universal thread running through it. And this one IMO certainly includes the shimmering of "a stated of grace." As the old dude I am, who in part grew up around classical music, the art of the "crescendo" or having a piece build up over its journey -- whatever the genre -- is one of the ways music gains a power unlike any other artistic medium. You have applied it so well here. Pardon the rambling quasi-review, but I rarely comment on tracks. Only the ones that, well, hit home - as a human being and as musician soul. Keep soaring. ~ PSK

Lyrics: Into the land of the living Black bleeds orange into blue I am coming to life, Light is breaking through I can hear the bells in the city Across the ancient shore I am ready to fight Let down the scarlet cord It's time to shed this masquerade You cannot love in moderation Dancing with a dead man's bones Lay your soul On the threshing floor Between the walls of the river, Shoulders bare the sacred stones We made it alive We are not alone Kiss the ground And change your name You cannot love in moderation You're dancing with a dead man's bones Lay your soul On the threshing floor I heard the distant battle drum The mockingbird spoke in tongues Longing for the day to come I set my face, forsook my fears I saw the city through my tears The darkness will soon disappear And be swallowed by the sun I am coming home I am coming home I am coming home I am coming home...
