I'm going to show you the best workflow for using the Akai MPK Mini MK2 with FL Studio without using the FPC and how to set it up.

4. Open the template (File -- Open)
5. Send to Program (whatever number you want)
6. Select MPK Mini MK2 for Input and Output -- Apply -- OK
7. Send to Program (whatever number you want)
8. Send to RAM
9. Close the Editor
10. Open FL Studio -- Options -- Midi Settings
11. Select MK2 for Input and Output
11. Omni Preview Channel -- 16
12. Cookup.

I've been trying to set this thing up for hours using the FPC shit, and this makes it waaayyy the fuck easier and more time efficient to produce music. I couldn't figure out for the life of me how to make it so the MPK played the highlighted instrument on the keys while still keeping the drum sounds on the pads, and this solved that frustrating ass problem lol. Something's missing then I assure you. Do you have it set to generic controller in midi settings? Also, make sure you have 16 channels with sounds. Automation clips etc count if they show in the channel rack. But they won't play sounds.

@@ajjohnson5703 I did it on PC. I had to try a few times to make sure it worked. An easy experiment is to take this preset then turn on the arp then send to ram.if it all works right your arp button will light up. Then just revert the settings send to ram and the presets will load. Also keep in mind when you load a new file in FL and add a synth or keys and try to play it on your mpk you need to select the instrument in the instrument rack. Little green bar to right of main tab. Sorry if that doesn't make sense I'm on mobile and typing quickly.

When I put in a kick or any other instrument in my channel rack and I play it with my drum pads it sounds horrible, it sounds like gunshots or sum but when I click in the kick with my mouse instead of using the drumpads, it sounds normal. Will this fix the problem, will this make my drums sound like they should when I use the drumpad on my Akai or will it still sound awful. This is only a problem when I put stuff in the channel rack like a hihat or sum, so it ain't a problem with my Akai because the drums sound good anywhere else but the channel rack.

That's a problem with time. Open your channel and where you can set like pitch and stuff....reset the time knob.

Hey. I'm glad you're enjoying the template. Yes there is a way. The keyboard has a 'full level' button on the left side. If you enable it, it will play the pads at full velocity each time (127 in Midi terms). If you disable it, it will be touch sensitive. That's used a lot in boom bap beats.

Ollie Hambly all I had to do was right click and select “Open With” and you’ll get the option to choose what program to open the file with and there should be an option to choose the MK2 editor and once you open it you just follow the rest of the instructions in the video

Make sure you actually select the right program. The programs are used so you can have different templates for different DAWs. You need to make sure you are using the program you sent the FL studio template to. Check the mpk manual for more clarification.

Yoooo, thanks for the simple and brief tutorial. I find the use of the FPC plugin annoying because I want to set each pad to individual channels. A couple of questions: 1. Do you have to set your channels or channel mixers in chronological order 1-16 for your pads? Let's say pads 1 2 3 4 are set to sample channels 1 2 3 4. If an instrument is set to channel 5, would that apply directly to pad 5 unless the channel is highlighted for the keyboard? 2. Correlating to question 1, are channels 1-16 only set for the MPK's 16 pad settings or is it possible to choose one of the 16 channels to not work with only the pads? Really sorry if the questions don't make any sense, I just want a little more clarification with the MPK template and FL Studio settings.

All good. Your mixer channels have nothing to do with it. You have to independently map those to the knobs using the learn function in FL studio. The pads only correspond to the channel selector window. The 16 channels will be statically assigned to the 16 pads. First 16 channels - 16 pads. But you don't have to use the pads.

My only question is do you have to load the editor and template every time you boot up your PC? I was assuming yes since we sent it to RAM.

Happy belated Juneteenth brother. ✊🏾 No you don't have to load it each time. Once you send it to the keyboard you are good. You can even plug it into a Mac or PC and if will work the same in FL.

@@douglastamer yeah that's what I was saying. I have a video for the Play specifically. This one is for the MK2 they're slightly different. The Mini Play has its own sounds. Check my latest video on how they compare.

Hoping you might get back to this. I bought the template and followed all the steps, and for a while it was actually working, but now only pads 5 and 7 and correspond to channels 1 and 2 while the rest just play notes off of whatever synth I have assigned to the keys. Do you know why this might be happening? Thanks in advance!

You probably have hidden channels like automation. Make sure you have 'All' selected in the channel selector window.

My keyboard has lag...I changed buffer to 256smp but still lags...also computer is recording audio through pc mic....any suggestions?

Stsrt by removing all plugins from the mixer. Or at least disabling all FX and see. Al Asio drivers should be used
