MPL Reference Librarian Dr. John Foster discusses the rise of National Socialism in Germany, including:
• Adolf Hitler's rise to popularity and power
• how the instability and failure of the Weimar Republic created fertile ground for National Socialism
• the pseudo-scientists who encouraged Germany's anti-Semitism
• what a terrible book Mein Kampf is.

Does this guy really think that hyper inflation isn't caused by printing money? Increasing the money supply is exactly what causes inflation.

@Gayle Elizabeth That's correct. William Shirer's, the CBS correspondent in Germany during the Weimar and Hitler eras, points out the fact about Chamberlain's marriage to Wagner's widow in his book, The Rise And Fall Of The Third Reich(1960). Plus, this guy is too dismissive of Mein Kampf(My Struggle), which is too important a book to ignore, even if it's badly written in general.

“If we are socialists, then we must definitely be anti-semites - and the opposite, in that case, is Materialism and Mammonism, which we seek to oppose.” “How, as a socialist, can you not be an anti-semite?” Adolf Hitler 1931 interviewed by Richard Breiting, editor of Leipziger Neueste Nachrichten
@paigetomkinson1137

Anyone trying to understand the word "Socialism" in that instance, and in the name of that party also needs to understand how Hitler defined "Socialism" itself. He took that label, but changed the definition to suit his own purposes. This is from an interview Hitler did with American journalist George Sylvester Viereck in 1932: "Socialism is an ancient Aryan, Germanic institution. Our German ancestors held certain lands in common. They cultivated the idea of the common weal. Marxism has no right to disguise itself as Socialism. Socialism, unlike Marxism, does not repudiate private property. Unlike Marxism, it involves no negation of personality and, unlike Marxism, it is patriotic...We demand the just fulfillment of the claims of the productive classes by the State on the basis of race solidarity. To us, State and race are one."

I know I get really upset anytime the guy at Best Buy is fixing my computer and makes a typo. Like...you're an expert in this field, why do you make any mistakes? So I would call them over and kindly ask them to bring me my computer back. The fact that they make a simple typo reduces my confidence they know how to fix my computer. I do the same when reading a book. I don't care how renown of an author they are, if I find one misspelling or grammatical error I ask for an immediate refund and leave a poor review. How can they be trusted to write a respectable book if they are making such simple errors?

Interesting ... as a Jewish person I posted something here ... but when I tried to edit it I got a message, in red text, 'error returned' ... and the posting disappeared when I restarted the video. Maybe "something" or "someone" was "suspicious" that I was posting something "antisemitic"? I've never seen this message before. This comment doesn't produce the message when I edit it. I cut and pasted the previous message, leaving out what I thought might be misunderstood, posted it, then tried to edit it ... and got the red message. I tried several times ... and every time I got the red message when I edited it and the posting disappeared when I restarted the video. The posting was about the anti-semitic response outside Germany to the Jewish involvement in the foundation of the German State. Very odd.

@@MentorPublicLib I just tried pasting the same message again a minute ago ... and got the red message on editing it ... and it vanished when I restarted the video. I can't see what the "error" might be independent of "content criticism".

@@MentorPublicLib I suspect the problem is: "Jewish B^^^^^s" and "Jewish G**d"... phrases commonly used by anti-semites. I've given up trying to post it. Even leaving out these words doesn't allow it to be posted ... if its been flagged then the whole thing has come to "something's" notice. I'm not "distressed" by this (if its happening) ... impressed really.

He shouldn't apologize so much. Like when he tried to make a point that National Socialists didn't just decide "let's destroy a bunch of Jews for no reason". Also, every regime has good and bad aspects. Yes, even National Socialism, I'm sure; and I am saying this as someone whose grandparents fought and even died in the World War against fascism. I know this because they demonize Communism in the West, yet communism did some great things, like educate literally everyone very fast, very effectively (so that starting with our great-grandparents generation, no matter what tiny village you'd go to everyone everywhre could read, write, and not just count but know math) and give people from lower classes the opportunities they could never dream of having. My own family is an example: My grandparents were coming from a family of poor peasants yet became an eye surgeon (grandmother) and psychiatrist, head of the psychiatric hospital (grandfather). Also the rights of women. To this day there are more female doctors in Russia than male doctors. Way more female scientists and especially engineers. So I am sure that National Socialism also did good things. Unfortunately, history is written by the winners, so unless we know something from first hand experience, we only get a demonized version of every other political regime.

At the beginnig of 20 Century German Jews actually were pro-nationalistic and consider themself as a part of Imperial Germany, Everything change with Wersal Threaty and total disaster at home with no jobs and high price of rent and food .At this time average German person sees that welthy Jews makes a fortunes buying homes and buisneses at a very low price. NSDAP and AH used propaganda blaming all Jews for all bad decisions . In 1933 only Catholics and Conservatives were in oposition to Nazis and that is why NSDAP won democratic vote and AH get elected.

The good thing is that when Russians made honour borders our king adbiced by mist important politicians arrested the dictator so romanian army turned around siding with the allies. Romanian army liberated Hungary and Czechoslovakia together with the russians. We had to choose between 2 evils but I guess we did for the Anglo Americans. Unfortunately the Russian imposed communism in eastern europe. I am educated good family, speak 5 european languages. Not only that but I am tall blue eyes, blondish but I hate nazism.
