The MP’s invited on to the programme to give their tuppence worth are paid handsomely as well. That’s why they always start by thanking Nigel for having them on the show. He still has a voice in parliament- but his flimsy arguments don't wash with most of the politically astute in that environment. Which is why he wants to be heard endlessly on TV and radio and other publicist platforms where a lot of people just believe what they hear without looking at it from all sides

@@melanierhianna We had an election, and just look at what happened... 1/3 turnout, Labour in power with 1/5 of the total voting age population. Reform getting enough votes for four times as many seats as they actually got, but for the ridiculous FPTP system we have. Labour claim they had a landslide, they have a mandate from the British public. The figures tell a different story. And now Labour trying to shut down vocal opposition, when it is actually part of an MPs job to speak to and engage with the electorate.

I'd have a strict uniform policy for the whole thing.... No second jobs WHATSSOEVER... including media, consultancy, business, even public services like working part time in the NHS. MPs should commit all their time to serving their constituents.

Some jobs( doctors, nurses, dentists amongst others) require a minimum number of practice hours to maintain registration. I have no problem with that . The rest of the second jobs (especially lawyers) can go.

Also when they get thrown out at the end of a term as an MP they have to fall back on something so I think it’s important to have other things going on besides just being an MP… I’m sure they will devout the majority of their time to being an MP - but here we go again whose business is it what anyone does as long as they do a good job!

As long as it's applied fairly and affects all MPs from all parties then seems fair to me. Sitting MPs can be guests on shows, sure, but shouldn't be spending time hosting them when their main job is to their constituents

The public have been so concerned by this in recent years x - prime minister Sunak was forced to promote a member of parliament to a specially created, and totally pointless ministerial role... 'The Minister for Common Sense'. He was forced to do this simply to prevent the MP in question from raking it in via her moonlighting activities, while her constituents wondered why she wasn't busy doing her full-time job as a highly-paid member of parliament.

Farage is on bloody question time so damn often. Parties with more MPs don't get on as often. One thing the boozy boomer doesn't have is a problem being heard. No one's stopping him speaking anyway, he can get up on his soap box on speakers corner and do it for free.

The establishment hate loathe and detest that he knows how to communicate with the population. They are open now in not wanting politicians to communicate. They want to take orders from Brussrks and be left I peace and quiet to get on with the job. The hypocrisy is now not even concealed. That is also why they want Germany to be free to act against immigration whilst finibg Hungary and Poland for doing the same thing. Open, un-concealed, hypocrisy.

Yes. Seems self-explanatory, people should take the job/role of being an MP to SERVE the local community. Not to prove themselves with a means to improve their own standard of living, nor to promote themselves as a 'brand'. Being in a position of journalism which often goes without contest, and being able to vote on legislation, should, to anyone, seem a conflict of interest immediately My 2 cents
