We dyno'd a car with just the GTE blank (0:49) on a tuned CR190 TDI. After tuning, it gained about 2hp and 5nm more after placing the blank. We only did 2 runs though, but on both runs it did 2hp and 5nm more with the blank on it. To be 100% sure that it does make a difference, you have to do like atleast 10 runs and then take the average power figures to conclude that it actualy makes a difference though. We didnt do the other intake mods on it though.

Great advice. Definitely going to do this on mine👍🏻

Have you done all the intake mods? Any noticable difference? I just opened the closed part, that made a small difference.

Thanks for sharing! Am about to get my facelifted skoda octavia mk3. I'll see if the intake is similar

The stock air intake with this slight mod shown in the video can take upto 400 hp easily !

I’ve just fitted the blanking plate alone and the car definitely feels more responsive now and seems to sound slightly different. The next mod for me is going to be opening up the area of the vent in front of the air box to see if it makes a difference.

I have done all the mods except for the blank duct part. I actually removed it. It would lose the power for a split second when shifting from 3rd to 4th gear. Removed the duct blank GTE part and the problem was solved. 🤷🏻

Good find of that part to fill the hole! Isn’t the channel across meant for a moisture trap though, otherwise cutting the other side out you just suck rain straight into your air box...
@ThenameisOskar3 жыл бұрын
There is a drainage in the airbox. Its still hard to get water in your airbox though.
@Nick_G7IZR3 жыл бұрын
My best guess on that hole being open is to: 1. allow the engine to breathe better at idle when stationary (ie, ensuring there is enough air). 2. Any water splashed in goes straight through in to the engine bay. 3) to increase air temp in to the engine at idle, thus reducing NOX emissions. But that's just a guess.
@ThenameisOskar3 жыл бұрын
@@Nick_G7IZR I'd call #1 mass production. The same intake has been placed on the GTI and R. Right behind the duct on the left side, thats where the intake manifold is located, which is made from plastic. So its probaly to also cool the intake manifold. In the case of #2, if alot of water will get into the engine bay, it can only evaporate. There is no gap or whatever to get rid of the water, as far as I remember. You are almost correct with #3. By holding the hole to the engine open, you raise the IAT (intake air temperature). Higher IAT is better for emissions, but bad for performance. I have done all the mods, except the airbox - turbo pipe. My oil temp is only a bit higher on the motorway when I drive 120kmh or faster. Its about 6°C higher than without the hole blocked, no big deal basicaly.

How do you pull it out?

The pipe is for a 2.0tdi will this fit a 1.9tdi? Thanks

I havent blocked the gap on the drivers side (for UK) yet, which blows air into the engine bay. Do you think its worth it? By blocking that gap the airflow to the airbox should improve. I modded the intake on the passengers side, there was a noticeable difference, but no one knows if blocking the gap on the drivers side makes any difference. Have you logged air intake temps? That should also drop a little bit.
@joshuaconroy59173 жыл бұрын
It won’t make a big enough difference to engine bay temps to cause a problem You have to remember these have a incredibly efficient cooling system. And there is more than enough alternative air intake to cool engine/ bay.
@ThenameisOskar3 жыл бұрын
@@joshuaconroy5917 I figured, but the oil temp is like 5 to 6C higher at 70mph or faster. The other day I was driving on the motorway with 65mph. The oil temp was at 96C. Without the duct blocking part, it would of been max 92C with the current weather conditions. I also logged the IAT. It was about 30% lower. Thats what the small difference makes I'd say.

I dont know about the elbow, check darkside developments online shop I guess, but the pipercross filter wont make a difference. Its a waste of money if you arent going to do insane tuning.

@Joshua Conroy and all other peeps. I've read all comments and experiences below, from different car owners (i believe). I'd read various experiences, as written already, and results. My thoughts of all this.... Isn't it better to STOP mess up THE FACTORY PARTS and keep on with your lives 🤣...?! Greets, R@Bin (-Just a Dutch guy with normal tought-)
