Thanks for this great introduction into what is possible with python in the CAN bus world. I suggest to extend that project to make the MQTT payload (and the MQTT topics) compatible with the Sparkplug B specification. This is propably not a trivial task, but Sparkplug B seems to be the number one payload specification for MQTT in the IIoT world.

Is it possible to install python-can under windows? I get the 'ERROR: Could not find a version that satisfies the requirement windows-curses; platform_system == "Windows" (from python-can) (from versions: none)' I've upgraded to python 3.5 and did both : 'pip install --upgrade pip' , 'pip install --upgrade setuptools'

pip install windows-curses then retry

The candump command does not work on my ubuntu shell on widows. I'm currently getting an error when trying to "sudo modprobe vcan". Does anybody know how to solve this ?

you have to install can-utils first.
