Meet Bill Holland: DJ, antique enthusiast, and member of Steampunk Chicago. Bill is getting ready for one of the big steampunk events: The Clockwork Vaudeville. There he will reveal the DJ rig he made out of old briefcases found at an estate sale. Watch this film to get a look inside the subculture that is steampunk.

I really wish we could go back into that era of wearing such lovely clothes. I really hate what's out there there today. Guys have no idea how handsome they look in a suit. We've lost so much over the years. And I also want to add, there's nothing wrong with exploring your individuality. YOu should do it and find out who you are. You'd be surprised. If folks don't like it, too bad, so sad, there's the door. I met a woman in a fabric shop who dresses in 1950's clothes. She looked elegant, clean, pretty, put together and what the women in my time would have called 'A Lady." I wish folks would just find themselves and run with it. We'd be a better society.

I think going back to the 19th century isn't always that nice. Just imagine the rights women or black people had in these times. Nah, I think 21st century is quite good to live in, compared with earlier times. But that doesn't mean you can't wear fancy clothes! That is one reason why I'm a Steampunk. You can be who you are and at least via internet you find people who think similar so you aren't alone being strange. And being strange is so much more interesting than fitting in! :)

the more I look at the world around me lately the more I like steampunk. the way they dress..the way they interact with each other. the way they are reflects the values of days gone by, something so sadly lost on this generation. more and more lately I feel like I was born at the wrong time.

Seems like a interesting Comunnity. I've heard the term Steampunk and never realized there is a whole Comunnity around it rather rather than just a style. But what ever your into there's always a serious Comunnity lifestyle around it . Anything . But none of should trash any group or Comunnity because someone takes it as their lifestyle. Some are very serious about Star Trek and Star Wars or medieval knights. I play the bagpipes and love Scottish things and Celtic things. When I play my pipes I feel like I'm on a mountain in Scotland 500 years ago. We all are serious about what we're into so let's not trash each other. I can appreciate the cool style of Steampunk even though I'm not part of it.

1:02 First of all, that is not entirely true and as a cosplayer myself, we do a lot better than those clowns depicted in the beginning, seriously look at what other people can do. The reason why steampunk was invented because those types of people just something up from the back of their heads just because they got fed up with the cosplaying culture.

Steampunk should do better if they could define the times/years that they are living in. Right now anything that is older than 1950 is Steampunk but then they play and dance to Techno music. Crap it's all over the place.
