Darren good to know the super degreaser is ok to use like that along with the eraser, two of the most scariest items for me to ever use on the paint itself but I will be using on my girl's lexus to see if it produces the same results without worrying!
@jayharvey66499 жыл бұрын
Same results with your spray and just a cloth. Magic Eraser IS slightly abrasive so it will scratch paint. A kitchen sponge will accomplish the same result without potential scratching/damage.
@muvs32pap7 жыл бұрын
You are speaking the truth to a great degree friend...although, I first used a generic magic eraser to remove or reclaim white areas of paper while painting with water color paints. It is able to lift the color without marring the papers surface, and that is with a 140lb. paper which is fairly light weight and fragile to scratches etc. It's all in how you use it. The magic eraser is so versatile because of the lack of elbow grease needed for it to do it's job. As I think about it a clean , good quality wool cleaning glove/rag is less abrasive than many poly/plastics found in kitchen sponges...my advice would be to try to use the foam side of a kitchen sponge as much as possible!
@muvs32pap7 жыл бұрын
True, wool polishing is a "cutting", thus clear coat and paint reducing/removing material that is best reserved for paint jobs with enamel paint with thick clear coats, think classic cars. That's what the detail shop guys tell me at least. I will now try it on a pitted rust spot on my daily driver before I do a prime and cover on it, thanks to your info and experience with M.Eraser Shanon.

Magic eraser is basically Melamine foam. It is a formaldehyde melamine sodium bisulfite copolymer. It's polymeric substance is very hard and abrasive. It works well for cleaning but it will damage your clear coat. Not much damage is noticeable at first, but the more you use it, the more coating it takes off. I used to use magic eraser for cleaning deep stains on my car but it eventually ended up damaging my paint.

Hey AFD I found the magic eraser through other means than use on car paints but it works oh so well. I have found for most cleaning jobs that a good, diluted dish detergent and water in a spray bottle works quite well. Also the same cleaning technique applies to stoves, refrigerators all the appliances that accumulate grease and nastiness over time. I find using a heavy duty degreaser isn't required for most cleanups and fear they might damage the modern water based clear coats...just my 2 cents.
@muvs32pap7 жыл бұрын
Added note, in US at least on east coast yoiu can buy generic magic erasers from Dollar General for half the price of Mr. Clean version...and I have not noticed a difference in performance while cleaning things such as stove tops.

Would a compound liquid( like a cut and polish) be safer on paint to remove scuff?
@autofetishdetail10 жыл бұрын
Depends on what you mean by safer? If you have an aggressive enough compound/polish, it would remove it just as quick, or almost as quick, but then you would still officially have to follow with a less aggressive polish anyways. Just like polishes or compounds, you as the user have much control based on how you choose to use it....how much, the speed of the machine, type of pad, etc., etc. Same holds true for the Magic Eraser. Are you using it with some type of cleaner, by itself, how much pressure, how long are you rubbing, etc., etc. I just know they are super handy, very effective, but like everything else, they have their own inherent limitations and appropriate use is always necessary.

Ray Ortines Compound, Polish and Wax it. If still visible after that, the alcohol has damaged your clear coat too much and you need to have the area repainted. Never (!) use harsh chemicals like strong acids or alcohol on paint or plastic!! Good luck to you.

Why use degreaser with the magic eraser for removing paint transfer instead of something like optimum no rinse? Aren't allot of auto degreasers corrosive? I tried it, and it only took off a little of the transfer and left nasty looking smudges which I had to go over by hand with fine polish.

White paint, black paint.. The clear coat on top of that is the same! It's just that you might not see the (possible) damage done so well on a white paint..
@autofetishdetail10 жыл бұрын
Depends on your definition of damage. The Magic Eraser will eventually abrade the surface if used long or hard enough. You have to make the judgement call. See my link in description box.
@michaelsaenz25010 жыл бұрын
the magic eraser is pretty abrasive, and yes the damage is masked by the white paint, any dark color car you would clearly see the damage done by this tool, it really shouldn't be used on paint, if in a dark room you pull that car in, and apply the proper detail lighting, you would see the scratches that would take extensive polishing to remove, for a quick fix this does work well, just pay the price with the damage afterwards :) just like all detailing you wanna use the least aggressive method first to be safe!
@autofetishdetail10 жыл бұрын
It's only as abrasive as you make it. You have complete control based on how much pressure you apply and how many times you rub back and forth. And no, you clearly would not have seen any damage done to this car in this moment as I used extremely light pressure. And no, it would not require extensive polishing to do what little abrading is/can be done by the Magic Eraser. Like everything, appropriate application is always a good thing, and everything has its trade-off's. And in my opinion, this is the least aggressive method and cuts to the chase as the starting point in assessing the actual damage underneath and what plan of action is required next.
@michaelsaenz25010 жыл бұрын
Auto Fetish Detail if you took a perfectly polished black car, and taped a 50/50 spot, then sprayed degreaser and rubbed one half with as much pressure as you did, took the tape off and put it in the sun, your telling me you would not see scratches? if so id like you to test it because i know I'm right this isn't one of the uses for a magic eraser, maybe on plastic stains, but not on paint, no way, this is the difference between some mobile detailing and concourse detailing
