As a former lucina main, this is slight lucina favor at most. You can't outdamage him, your grab sucks so his runaway game is way more effective than your chase-game if you happen to be behind. And yeah, lucina can sometimes just knock off stage and counter/dilt, but the thing about lucina mains, is that they have too much honor to do the meta thing. If he mixed in counters, shieldbreakers, nair 2 off stage he would have won, but at least for counters, he probably doesn't want to be cringe, which is why he didn't pull the trigger on it. A lucina with no shame is the only A tier lucina, most play her like a B+ at most. Also, someone tell this man about nair - upsmash, he could have set up a way stronger comeback game 4

Either he side-bs and gets countered and dies, or tries to go under, up-bs and either dies from lack of range, or possibly does to another counter. Using it offstage is the only thing keeping them even remotely meta, in my opinion.

​@tumultoustortellini You're kind of just wrong.. I play lucina as a kind of counterpick character but I still have 200+ hours on her and if you lose this matchup you just got outplayed. Lucina has some of the best edgeguards in the game, she can counter macs recovery from just countering onstage. Lucina doesn't get out damaged if you don't play stupid. Mac gets Hella outraged by lucinas airels, he has literally no way of getting out of disadvantage. You have 3 options as mac: neutral b, airdodge, or counter because you can't mash his dogshit airels. I can go on. This matchup is terrible

Most lucinas don't counter, so this mu isn't that bad for little mac, it is for the countering ones (rarity as stated above). Maybe that wasn't clear, I apologize. "lucina doesn't get out-damaged if you don't play stupid" exactly! So many character get to play stupid and do so much more damage, have stronger advantage states, the whole works. Lucina has to try, and in this meta, that's trying to "make things work". Characters that are better don't have to force it, they simply have it as an uncontestable truth, no "but if you're good", like yeah, if you're not playing stupid, and a character that gets away with playing stupid plays smart, the math says you're losing. (This was rambly, I apologize) "Mac gets hella outranged by lucina" When has that ever mattered? If he throws out a smash attack and you hit him, he wins, whether that be fair or anything else. He doesn't even jump so you can't air-to-air/anti-air, which is where lucina is at her best. He makes her biggest strengths irrelevant and forces her to play him game, which hurts lucina some of the most out of any character. His disdvantage only matters so much when compared to his own neutral and advantage state. Anytime lucina is in the air is an opening for mac by default so while you're trying to force your own win condition, his is almost always in effect.

Better than ganon, banjo, and ike, easily more scary than someone like link, meta knight or pirhanna plant, beats chars with weak damage output by default and is really tough for aerial dependent chars because he has primative zap-punch. Plus he has comeback mechanic that goes through shields. You're easily wrong, dude, sorry.
