The Inbetweeners and Mr. Gilbert in particular is a great example of how British humour is not like American humour. I'm not knocking American humour, there's a lot of American comedy I like, but whereas American humour might stick the knife in, British humour will stick the knife in and then turn it. Gilbert is great at that. I think some times it might have something to do with painting a bleak picture and then making it bleaker still. No, there is no hope, whereas with American sensibility, there always has to be hope somewhere.

well... canonically Gilbert is Will's stepfather to be. so yeah, that's rather accurate. Although, it would remain to ever be seen if Gilbert ever softened up to Will and be a proper dad or whether he will always loathe him. I personally think he'll always hate will XD
