USSR lost more civilians than soldiers... I will add this here. Murmansk - After failing to take the city, nazis dropped over 185,000 bombs on the city, Murmansk was barely bombed less than Stalingrad. 3/4 of buildings city had were obliterated. After making sure they have no chance in taking the city, nazis chose to tear it down COMPLETELY WITH ITS CITIZENS. Nazis knew the city was mostly wooden, so they dropped bombs that started fires to turn it into ash. Petrozavodsk - Finns built 10 concentration camps in the city and surroundings. Conditions were comparable to nazi concentration camps. I saw a picture of kids there, condtitions werent much better than in nazi concentration camps Leningrad (aka. St Petersburg) - The city was blockaded for 872 days. After the blockade, out of pre-war 3 million people only 500K were staying. Only a tiny part died to bombings. Most died of hunger Smolensk - In the city and province nazis burned over 5000 houses of innocent civilians. 300 of them were burned together with people who lived there. In Smolensk itself, Nazis destroyed 7300 buildings out of 8000 that were there (91% of everything the city had, nazis destroyed) Kiev - Nazis would execute over 50k innocents in less than a week. There was also a death camp (concentration camp but instead of upkeeping the prisoners they would be killed) near it. ill finish later

Hello I from Russia accidentally stumbled upon your video. You described the regions quite well and that in them my great-grandfather lived in Solnechnogorsk. It was not very far from Moscow to it came Germans but to my surprise he did not kill or take captivity. But simply took his cows well and other animals I just wanted to say what was happening at that time it was impossible to pass it it was necessary thank you for making this video

i actually live in arkhangelsk, and (if i remember correctly) arkhangelsk had the second highest amount of people who died of famine (the highest was leningrad), and it's even scarier when you know that arkhangelsk was the biggest port accepting american lend-lease (including food). can't even imagine how horrible life in my hometown was during this period.
@AmirPounding2 ай бұрын
i remember reading stories about prisioners who were forcedm to work there and they all wanted to work forced at the port BCS maybe if the Americans saw how they were treated, the soviet soldiers would be less bad with them
Another correction: the uncanniest one is Sevastopol (-208)
