For an nvidia fan I am actually quite worried how the 40 series will go up against amd’s Rx cards
@SpiceCh2 жыл бұрын
Keeping the 40-series prices stupidly high was expected since they allegedly have a bunch of 30-series cards they want to get rid of, yet refuse to put on sale. This way most people's only realistic go-to option will be a 30-series card for the nearest future. However, intentionally hamstringing high-end 40-series cards with a small memory bus also leads me to speculate that, either Nvidia intends to produce the 40-series for "a while" and will widen the bus for "ti" and "super" variants down the line, or the 50-series isn't as good as they had hoped so they're intentionally making this generation worse in order to artificially make the 50-series perform better because it'll have a wider bus from the get-go. Or both.

So Basically, Nvidia has too much overstock of last-gen cards. 3090's,80's,70's,60's etc. To compensate, this newer generation the 40 series cards will be sold at roughly twice the price until the inventory of the last-gen cards is exhausted. Which, when it is, the cards will assume their proper prices. But...there's more: nVidia is selling next-gen 4060 class products and rebranding them as 4080's under even higher prices than 3090's. That was the main point Linus is making. It's a scam! You'll buy either an overpriced next-gen card or a price-fixed last-gen card. Either way, you are screwed.

@lukeuseforce2 жыл бұрын
Although 30 life cycles sounds bad, I think the majority of users will only desire to plug in/out just a couple of times. Who really needs that many cycles, besides 0.1%(?) of the gaming population? By the time I unplug my 2070 super, for the 2nd or 3rd time(?), it will be to upgrade. So, I'm not convinced. That being said, I would have thought it was basic engineering/manufacturing 101 to make a product that can be handled 100's of times.

Actually it's worse than that. The weight of the GPU is very high. Because of this weight in the process of taking out the GPU you can accidentally break the PCI Express slot. Also due to the limited amount of times you can connect and disconnect the power cables combined with the potential of video card catching on fire lowers the resale value significantly. It feels as if Nvidia can no longer sustain the performance given the current fabrication processing limitation. I am talking about going 5nm or less.
@moldoveanu82 жыл бұрын
I use some clear fishing wire to invisibly hold the extra GPU weight. I tied it to the top of the case and it comes down just enough to keep the GPU in place, can't see it and doesn't get in the way of airflow. It's just a loop. So I don't have to untie it to remove the GPU I just slide the loop out of the way

But seeing the rtx 4000 i genuinely believe that this is just bad product (according to the many tech reviewers niktek puts in his vids, lots of them have years upon years of benchmarking and building their reputation)...
