Or at the very least a dedicated lawyer (3, one for each shift, that actually knows the laws of NP) that can advise them on what charges they should press, even if they don’t actually prosecute the case themselves

​@danielandree3947 Yeah, I like this idea, it's too bad they can't just go to their higher ups, though, because even higher ups don't understand the law a lot of the time. The cops do need somebody to go to when they aren't sure, though.

@@davidschmidt2081 well realistically it’s not the cops job to know the nuances of the law, they need a brief overview and understanding of it yes, but realistically that’s why there are DAs in real life, the cops in real life for example, will say chase a suspect down and catch them eventually, and they will hold them, but the DA will determine wether their running away is better suited to resisting/ obstructing (running on foot), misdemeanors flee to alude (in a car but not speeding/ obeying traffic laws), or felony flee to alude (over 15mph over speed limit/ not following traffic laws). Cops need to know a general sense of what law is being broken, but the severity of the law being broken and the nuance to that is decided by the prosecutors office.

@@marinos101 no, it would only be fine to ask judges about prior incidents that have already been fully settled, so they could get their input on how they think they should have handled it. If it’s still open, it conflicts the judge and makes them instantly biased.

I don’t get how crane can say the power within the council lies with the people, but then also point out that the people’s side needs to convince someone to vote with them to pass stuff. Like by default the people lose if it’s people vs others. So really the power doesn’t lie with the people and it’s crazy that he’s trying to tell them that it does. Sure they have the tie breaker, but last I checked 3/8 is not majority nor is it even half.

The whole part where he says something about lawyers telling cops they can’t charge someone and if they called Crane he would tell them the same thing, that’s not a double standard… the cops should just tell the lawyer to save his arguments for court. And the lawyer should then just easily destroy the case and win in court if they are right. The cops shouldn’t be listening to lawyers anymore than they should be listening to judges. The cops are both lazy and fried from all their internal drama.

It would be so easy for them to use the council to propose laws and they vote on whether to push the laws/city changes to public vote. Where people go to booths and vote yes or no if they want laws passed. Literally the civilians voting for what they want. Maybe criminals would run the entire vote or maybe the civs who do g6, senior buns, sani etc would run it. But at least you can say its the people in the city voted it in. Not just 8 people with essentially the same interests (no criminals) making laws that do not affect them.

Might work for a while, but voter fatigue would start to set in and people would pay less and less attation, then say "whats this, I didn't vote for it"; also some of those laws require you to spend 15mins to 1/2hr reading them and the other laws they referance in order to propperly understand what the law is doing. Imagine K having to get the gang together every week to sit round and talk about if they want to vote for somthing and how it might effect them; might be fun to do/watch the first couple of times, but just like RL people will get board and stop paying attention.

This is the reason why 2-3 countries in the real world(mostly Scandinavian) have referendums on a frequent basis( which basically means the people vote for the laws), and the other have a representative of the people. You can't expect people to spend the time needed to familiarize themselves with the laws to make the vote. Referendum-based democracy is the highest type of the democracy, and democracy is by the people, for the people, but the people are retarded. There will always be people that say "Wait I did not vote for that!" or "I don't have time to do this. X, you should represent me, cuz I can't be bothered " and from there you get to the same thing as now - representatives for the people, that are familiar with the laws(the mayor). Also, organizing referendums costs resources, which come from the pockets out of the people and time, which the organizers pay with. If they want the referendums to be realistic and create interesting RP scenarios, they should make the referendum come from the budget - too many referendums and the city can go broke, so the referendums will have to be chosen carefully. This would be fun RP though, having the people vote for shit, but this can have severe consequences(the city burning) and most people on RP don't like consequences sadly.

I get what you're trying to say, but the literal definition of a "criminal" is someone who doesn't follow the law. The laws are made to benefit civilians, not the crims. Would make 0 sense to make laws that benefit criminals.

@@Valbert94 Criminals are just as much a civilian as a law abiding citizen. Laws are made to protect people's rights regardless of criminal history. Some laws even benefit criminals more than non criminals. Laws are supposed to be unbiased to protect the rights of citizens. Criminals are citizens by fact.

cranes answers on paper are solutions, cgs point is the pd and the mayor ignore what theyre suppose to do and theres little that can be done about it. Like with the oversight board theres nothing stopping the pd from ignoring their recommendations on what needs to happen.

Omg. I remember cornwood talking to mayor max about commissioner. Mayor max had to be appointed by someone like the pd lisaon. Cornwood appointed Mayor max for pd commissioner because of cg shooting at the council meeting and needed someone to kick pd into man hunt cg mode

It’s because it turns into an every time thing, and like he said people stop wanting to do it. They either kidnap the jurors before the trial and say they’ll kill them if they go against them, or if they don’t know who the jury is until the trial and they find you guilty they get ocean dumped every day. Which gets tiring and makes other people not want to do it, or the crim gets off every time. Literally the only way a jury system would work in this game is if it’s completely anon like Vinny said where they aren’t announced, and they are kept in a different room.

I disagree. I don't think they are saying that at all. What they are saying is that the systems in place don't work. The COB has no power and can be totally ignored. Unless the Mayor can be proved to be corrupt they cannot be removed (ie no way to 'recall' him/her or have a referendum just have to wait till their term is over). They cannot appeal to the state because no one (IC) knows who they are. And the council is not representative of the people. Of the eight members, only two are there as a result of the vote of the people. Three are appointed and three are voted for only by a handful of special interest groups). The Mayor's casting vote only applies in a four all tie. If the vote is say 5-3 against the mayor (this against the people) they can't do anything about it. No extra vote for the Mayor. The State, can over turn it but no one knows who they are so no one can make respentation.
