Across Canada and beyond, our frontline workers continue to work hard to keep things running during this pandemic. Here is a short musical tribute to all these folks who are doing such incredible and important work. We are grateful for you and encourage you to keep it up!
This musical tribute idea is not mine! It has been happening around the world for a while already, and more recently has made it to Manitoba with students from several band programs around the province participating.
Here's a link to one such example:

By the way, that's my 11-month old son cheering me on at the very start of the video :)
Band students, please JOIN IN on your instrument! Mr. Klassen will be playing every weekday (or most anyway!) between about 7:00-7:15 PM outside his house. The idea is to salute frontline workers during hospital "shift change" time. Here are a couple points to explain the thought behind this:
-Take an instrument outside around 7:00 PM and play! Could be your band instrument, or any other instrument. If you're a piano player, play inside!
-It does not matter WHAT or HOW you play, it's about WHY you play :) We're always trying to dig into the intent/purpose of our music, right? Well, here's a great cause! Play method book exercises, band music, other music you find online - it DOES NOT MATTER what you play :)
-Video a short clip of your playing and send to Mr. Klassen via email! He won't share any clips without asking for permission from you and your family, and he would love to know about your involvement.
-Make a little sign if you want, to indicate a thank you to frontline workers, or say thanks at the start/end of your video.
-If you live somewhere without nearby neighbours, all the more reason to make a video to share!
Let's unite together in music even though we must remain physically distant at this time. Maybe some of you will be even be able to hear each other from your front doors! I hope you'll join me at 7:00 PM in thanking our frontline workers in Manitoba, across Canada, and beyond!
Sincerely,
Mr. Klassen
