To the cranes who lost ponds, paddy fields and food and migrate to the garbage heaps in cities
Mr. Kumaran, a cattle egret (crane) from Ambasamudram, comes to the city in search of a job. Kumaran migrated to the city due to scarcity of food and loss of habitat in his village. All the ponds and water sources were heavily polluted by humans. He finds a queue of migrant labourers (cattle egrets from elsewhere) and joins the crowd. It’s a recruitment rally conducted by a factory where food waste from garbage is recycled to fast food. The interviewer likes Kumaran. As his big boss loved organic food he finds Kumaran, who knows fishing well, an apt person for the job. Kumaran can bring natural food from his village and impress the Boss.
Soon Kumaran is appointed as a supervisor. His job is to oversee the workers in the dump yard who collect leftover food from garbage. Kumaran doesn’t believe in hard work. His motto is eight hours of work, eight hours of rest and eight hours of entertainment. Eventually output from the dump yard gets reduced considerably and Kumaran is summoned.
Kumaran is asked to meet Manikunju, the Boss, who still possesses a nostalgia for the village and life there. Kumaran goes for the meeting. Boss's cabin is inside “Mani’s”, a fast food restaurant owned by Manikunju. Kumaran is amazed by the restaurant’s interior. Adding to his surprise, there is a beautiful lady egret sitting with a bottle of soft drink. Kumaran gets knocked down by the transparent doors and reflective flooring. Manikunju is looking for some fresh water fish from the village. There is small talk and Kumaran agrees to bring fresh fish from his village for Manikunju.
On his way back Kumaran collides with Chandni, his boss’s daughter and falls down. Kumaran is spell bound and spends the whole day in a dreamy state. He is waiting for the factory siren as he has other plans.
Kumaran decides to see Chandni once more. As soon as he is back from work he gets a shower, dresses up, combs up a spike with his little hair and flies towards Manikunju’s villa. He finds Chandni dreaming in the moonlit night. She seems like a swan. Kumaran falls down from the wall making a noise. Chandni gets scared and she screams. Rahul, her elder brother comes out and chases Kumaran. Kumaran flies towards the dump yard and Rahul follows. As Kumaran knows the place well he hides behind a heap of scrap. The dump yard is a dreadful place at night. Both Rahul and Kumaran are paralysed by the sight of a rack full of dog skulls.
Next day morning, Kumaran is down with chilling fever. There is a knock at the door and Kumaran gets terrified thinking that it must be his supervisor. But to his amusement it is Annachi (The Palm civet) with the organic food he brought from the village. Kumaran is happy and promises to bring enough money to Annachi from his Boss.
Kumaran takes the organic food to his boss. He gets very happy. Manikunju shares his past life with Kumaran in a nostalgic mood. Like Kumaran, he is also from Ambasamudram. Once there was big clash between crows and cranes and he lost his entire family in that devastating fight. He ran away to the city. Struggled a lot, did business and by his sheer hard work he became today’s Manikunju, the industrialist.
Chandni over hears the conversation and the story of her dad’s village. She is impressed and wishes to visit the place. Manikunju does not approve, as he has a lot of unpleasant memories there. That evening Chandni and friends decides to ask for Kumaran’s hel
Chandni and friends come to the dump yard to visit Kumaran. They feel the place too filthy. They meet Kumaran and request to guide them to Ambasamudram. Kumaran is hesitant. But he cannot say no to Chandni. The programme is scheduled to the next Sunday. Journey is amazing, Chandni and friends are enchanted by the beauty of the village and land on the lake shore. Now they want see how fresh fish is caught from the lagoon. Kumaran makes a demonstration.
Chandni’s birthday is a grant event. There is a DJ from the band ‘Puss in Boots’. And a buffet dinner too. Manikunju introduces some brand new fast food items of his restaurant to the guests. But during the buffet unexpected incidents happen, which will decide the future of Kumaran and Chandni. Watch the full movie.
