Let's Play Mass Effect 1. When Mass Effect released in 2007, I went through it as a first person shooter. I was a casual gamer, and story wasn't important. That's pretty much all changed and I am excited to look at Mass Effect through new and more inspired eyes. I'm looking forward to being quite thorough, making tough decisions and hopefully, saving the galaxy.

I really hated mass effect 1. I'm not sure why. The story was amazing, but everything else was terrible in my opinion. I've only logged two hours into mass effect 2, so I can't formulate an opinion on that yet. Weirdly enough, I really like sci-fi shooters and dragon age, but I found no enjoyment in mass effect 1. Hopefully mass effect 2 is better. The only reason I keep playing is for the story.

Mass Effect,in my opinion the best game series ever !!! (and I don´t think anythin will beat it) The story,the characters,the galaxy,the races,the lore,the music,the desicions,the protagonist and the epic mission´s are all factors that make this series the best for ME.And I hope ME:Andromeda will continue this epicness :-) I´m really excited about your reactions to the world,the lore,the persons and of course the story.I know you´ve already played trough all three games but I´m still really excited about your desicions.You got my sub :)

Also, definitely read as much of the codex as you can. If not on the series, then on your own. Because that shit is interesting. I know you are really thorough anyway, but damn I caught myself reading the codex for like an hour and a half one day, and I enjoyed every minute of it. They set so much stuff up in such a subtle way. I can't say too much about what comes into play and what doesn't though. I will have alot to discuss once you beat ME3 though,hehehehe.

Ahhh, I'm planning to watch all of this. Even though I've played the trilogy twice, watched many other let's plays, from what I've seen you're an incredible let's player after marathoning your The Last of Us and Beyond Two Souls playthroughs. And the epicness of a mass effect trilogy run + you will be amazing, I'm sure. Mass Effect is an AMAZING series, and I hope you will learn to appreciate it, even if the ending is utter shite. It's unfortunate the ending had to be jury rigged like that in a terrible way, but it's still a series worth playing. Five times. Unfortunately as you surely already know there is significant gameplay effects to not attempting to get as much "good points" and "bad points" so sometimes you don't even get to make the choice you want to. Mass Effect is about choices but doesn't have the same morally grey amount of choices as some other RPG games and encourages you to mostly lean towards Paragon/Renegade, while there is no reward for neutrality, only penalties.
@jayr5277
@jayr5277 10 жыл бұрын
To be fair, I'd say Mass Effect is better about not forcing you to lean Paragon or Renegade than Mass Effect 2 is (I would also say it's better than ME3, but in ME3 neutrality isn't even a thing...), but yeah... As someone who did an all neutral playthrough, it gets pretty annoying in both games.

@jayr5277
@jayr5277 9 жыл бұрын
mrmiffmiff I really just mean that middle right option was removed in ME3, apart from a slim handful of conversations. I even specified that I did do an all neutral play through (without cheating no less). As in no interrupts in ME2 (Except for the Vitor one) or 3 (Except for shoting the Illusive Man) and only middle options except when they aren't there. I'll admit ME3 allows you to do neutrality in a way though, just not as directly as 1 and less so than 2.

The female voice acting is not much better IMHO. Jennifer Hale is a great Voice-actress and Mark Meer was actually directed to be a bit bland/"neutral" in ME1, but from a trilogy perspective I prefer Mark's more "low key" performance (which I think improves over the trilogy) over Jennifer's more "cartoonish" and sometimes over-the-top/exaggerated delivery.

Well Hale has way more fun with her work in terms of Sheppard. And her portrayal fits the changes in the franchise far more. ME2 and ME3 are far better games if one's Sheppard is Self-Aware Jennifer Hale as there's quite a few bits that are a bit hard to take seriously in those games without her sass.
@emmax9852
@emmax9852 10 жыл бұрын
When I hear Jennifer Hale deliver the lines, she has the strength of someone who is in charge and that people would listen too. Mark Meer's voice sounds like he could be Soldier 2, at least of what I've heard of him so far. I hear he does a good job in the 3rd game, so I'm interested to play it with him. I wonder if it depends on who you play as first? Maybe, if you play as maleshep first then the femshep voice sounds weird and vice versa?
@queenshepard.522
@queenshepard.522 7 жыл бұрын
I respectfully Disagree. Jennifer Hale did a great job at voicing Sheppard. Yeah the first game wasn't that great but it was good for it's time. 2 and 3 is where it is at and she does a better job sounding commanding then Mark.

To be fair with the voice acting, both are great. Mark Meer, the male-shep voice, has that authoritative, military-esque voice that makes him sounds like he REALLY fits in the military, while Jennifer Hale, the fem-shep voice, is a lot more emotive. Personally, I just enjoy the male-shep voice more than fem-shep. It just... feels better for me to hear.

@FeuerFremder

Yes. Femshep overall has both the better default character model, facial expressions and the better voice acting. The male sheppard from the voice acting mostly feels like a generic "space marine", while femshep a far more varied range of personality, to the point that quite a few people view the femshep as "sort of" THE definite version of Sheppard. Male Sheppard is decent enough but he mostly does feel like a "traditional generic bioware lead" for most of the time. As for ME3 DLC - I would not expect a "fixing" of the ending. The DLC was advertised as that, but in reality it only added a slideshow that does not really deal with the main problems people had with it. And then they released another "fixing" DLC, "The Citadel DLC" that was pure dumb fanservice of nonsense. But then again that should be left till ME3 as ME3, frankly has...quite a few problems with itself even without an ending.

It might be too far in the future for you to decide, but do you plan to keep your class the same when you get to 2 and 3? Vanguard are an interesting class, moreso in the later games than this one. Hey Chris, I'm really looking forward to your playing through the trilogy because, despite its faults, Mass Effect is still easily my favorite western RPG series. And there's absolutely no shame in playing through it like a generic Third Person Shooter, I basically did the same when I first played (although soldier is still my favorite class) but soon just got overwhelmed by the story and restarted with a fresh mindset.

It's great to see another person who won't just stick to Paragon or Renegade exclusively. I've always loved seeing people roleplay in these games. Mine was Pandaria Shepard, a Spacer/War hero/Soldier (primarily a sniper). She was usually a nice person but could easily lose her temper in stressful environments. However, she would never go as far as to kill in cold blood.

*sigh* my favorite lets player finally does a game again I once really really liked...but no, I cannot bring myself to watch this now. Yeah I am pathetic about that, but right after the fantastic setup of ME1 the whole story, universe and gameplay is going down the drain, with THE ENDING being the biggest pile of bullshit ever seen the light of day...but I'll leave it at that and keep the LP for the ones happy enough to still enjoy the series... :-( . Oh and Odd, saving the galaxy, yeah, I was looking foward to that once as well...little did I know...

I play as Fem Shep one out of every three playthroughs for this game. I do find role playing as a male easier, but I also like to see how the game changes playing as a female. I'm planning on probably playing as a male Dwarf for my first Dragon Age Inquisition playthrough.

I played the entire trilogy a few months ago (got it on sale for my PS3) and it was awesome, especially with everything linked together. It's one of the best overreaching stories of all time but I would suggest when you get to ME3, there's the Citadel DLC that I think was the best ME3 DLC hands down.

I'm curious: You mentioned how you've changed your outlook on games and come to focus more on story. I share that sentiment; story makes or breaks games as much as gameplay. Here's what I want to know: what changed your focus? Was it a game? A story? Age? What caused it?

I love that song. Vigil is one of my favorite songs in a video game. I remember long nights where I would just perch outside and take long drags of my cigarette, while listening to the song in my headphones. It was so very peaceful.

But seriously, Mass Effect is one of my all time favourite series, and I'm really looking forward to seeing how you find it Chris. After Ive watched your whole trilogy playthrough I bought the game and devloped a love-hate relationship. Ive never raged so hard in a game about terrible and idiotic game mechanics but at the same time I always feel dragged to start another playthrough. The combat is so bad sometimes but can also be strangely satisfying. Plus, the DLC mess EA did there is unforgivable.

Wow, you're actually doing this, huh Chris? Well, there goes another chunk of my free time, damn you. Also, damn you for not choosing Femshep (seriously, the male voice is plain grating after a while). Besides, you did an _awesome_ job as Jodie in Beyond! It was absolutely brilliant to watch. Also, I believe I once commented on Femshep's other virtues, to wit: 1) It's 3rd person, so you're going to be staring at a polygonal butt for hours - might as well make it female. 2) Lesbian space sex. Like I said: Damn you, Chris. Damn you.

Oh my gosh - I have been watching your ME2 play through at nights recently. I originally started watching to see how to play the game after getting it free from EA a few weeks back and stayed for the excellent commentary/role playing. I have become so addicted to ME2 (*andGarrus*), I just bought ME and ME3 so I could play from stem to stern. As such, looked to find a play through of ME and voila! - I see I actually started in the middle of your "Mass Effect Trilogy" play through. Wonderful! Thank you for these .. you are just really amazing at doing these play through videos and make them so much fun to watch! *HUGS!* from a southern - or perhaps northern, dependent on your locale - neighbor in Minnesota!

I'm going to try watching this as I'm playing through the game myself, though I'll be a few hours in advance as we might choose to do quests in a different order. It'll be interesting to see how things diverge between our playthroughs. > Male/Spacer/Ruthless/Vanguard This is already a great start, haha! I picked Female/Earthborn/Sole Survivor/Infiltrator and while you seem to be going for a career man, I'm a very empathetic character. Polar opposites ^^

I always felt that if you are a Spacer, you could easily choose "Ruthless" and still roleplay it completely believable. Think Admiral Kaine (sp) from Battlestar Galactica - or any military commander in a hard place. If you were raised on military warships it is very likely you would have a "ruthless" (albeit fair and logically-minded) mindset, so to say. The other one I always like to play off-the-cuff is War Hero - because I feel like although that would imply being a goody-two-shoes, the fact of the matter is that in a real combat situation, if you are a War Hero, it means you've probably done some, uh, questionable things. You've made those really hard choices. Yeah, you might be a hero, in some sense, but you might have demons. I love flipping the logic on its head, like that.

I recently went through and played through all 3 with the same character interested in the story, and it kind of changed me. Excited to see my favorite PTer's PT. (Having said that, really wish you would have chosen a female character. Can't stand the male actor) =p

I'm sure I won't get much feedback but is there any other "good" class option in the trilogy than vanguard? I know the deciding factor in me watching this playthrough is your class choice of vanguard, which can be upgraded throughout the series with additional weapons training and a deadly biotic combo skill tree. Infiltrator can be fun and Soldier is most "guns-a-blazin" but Adept and Sentinel seem quite nerfed to make Vanguard OP.

Mr Odd, I find it odd (no pun intended) that you say you're uncomfortable with roleplaying a female character in this game, because you seem to be able to get pretty into your female character in VTM: Bloodlines that flirts with just about everyone she sees and also where you have to say your lines yourself because there's no voice acting for your character. Did you really change your whole stance on that in just a few short months? Also, I have no idea how you could possibly play this as an "alien killer simulator" seeing as there's a lot of dialogue and exploring to be had, and the story is pretty much the focal point of the game. Nevertheless, loving your lps, just binged-watched what you have of vtm: bloodlines so far, and I have a feeling I'll be doing the same thing with your ME series throughout the next week or so :D.

the problem with ruthless efficiency though is that it sounds EXACTLY like the kind of bullshiz people use to justify killing and doing bad stuff in "the walking dead". I would call Shane from the The Walking Dead completely Ruthless and look what happened to him.

Super stoked. The nostalgia is already hitting me at the menu music. About the Femshep thing, I played 1,2 as Maleshep and then played the demo for 3 with both to try it out, and went with Femshep for all of 3. One other thing is that I would turn the film grain off... It looks strange to me. Can't wait to experience the story again!

So glad that I decided to look at other LPs you did. I love Mass Effect! I played the hell out it. Fem Shep's voicing is better, but that doesn't mean male's is bad. To me it is a difference between good and great. Male Shep is good. Fem Shep is great. Plus this ought to be great to just watch because of how great the story is and you are entertaining to watch play.

I love creating a Shepard that behaves in the opposite of the typical. Like the Spacer/War Hero that takes mostly renegade options. I play it like he did something heroic, but did it because he wanted to survive and didn't want the raiders to win. And conversely I love the War Hero/Ruthless Shep but he's mostly a soft ol' Paragon mostly but he'll make the hard brutal choice when necessary. Like he does what he feels is necessary but doesn't enjoy it and he's more prone to opening up to his squad, while being cold and brutal to enemies.
