5:26 Ox-King is Chichi's father, and a former pupil of Master Roshi who trained alongside Goku's adoptive grandfather, Gohan. He's technically an actual king, but his kingdom has been nothing but rubble since Master Roshi accidentally destroyed the entire mountain it sat on while trying to put out a massive fire that had engulfed the entire area, and they never elaborate on whether things have improved for him since. His only involvement anymore is just showing up every other blue moon to check up on his daughter and grandkids.

Ox king was a bandit king that was trained by Master Roshi along side grandpa Gohan. His castle rested on a mountain that was wreathed in fire, One day the fire became too intense for him to even enter his castle anymore. So a kid Goku went with a kid Chichi to get master Roshi to help put it out. During the travel, Goku because he cannot figure out the difference between male and female by appearances used the only way he knew to figure it out and pats Chichi on her crotch. (no I am not joking) Chichi proclaimed that this meant they had to get married. And Goku thinking it was a type of food agreed. The other key thing about the whole situation was that thanks to master Roshi putting out the fire (not to mention the mountain and castle) useing the kamahamaha wave, Goku learned to use that attack by watching it being used once.

In the uncut version of the show, there's A LOT that happens between Picollo taking Gohan and the Saiyans arriving. Gohan has a lot of adventures before Picollo even starts training him, and we see how he slowly grows over time to be self sufficient. Both the games and Dragon Ball kai kind of skip over that, but Gohan goes through a lot of shit on his own and we really get to know him. Goku's training on King Kai's planet is also explored in a lot more depth, and we see all the crazy things King Kai has him do to become stronger. The advantage of that is....well....we get to know him. Also, when the Saiyans finally DO show up, it feels like the climax of this grand adventure that Gohan's life has been building towards instead of: "that thing that was mentioned just a few episodes ago." The disadvantage is that it's SO slow. There's a lot of filler and not all of it is good. And it can make repeat watchings a real slog, which is where Kai has a big advantage.

Ox King is a former pupil of Roshi and Chichi's dad. Goku met him as a child because one of the Dragon Balls was in his treasury, and back then he was kinda murdery so they fought, then he stopped when he realised they both knew Roshi. There was a bit of an adventure with trying to put out the fire in his castle (long story), and Chichi made Goku promise he'd marry her (Goku agreed because he misunderstood and thought she was offering him food).

Sooooooo were almost out of the cringe batch of episodes. 1 to 7 are ''softly'' funny but pretty cringe with a lot of shady references that even me a 90's kid have difficulties understanding. from episode 7 to 10, to the namek saga. Everything has improved. Jokes are no longer just first degree. So many good voice actors almost better than the original show. Jokes so funny you get tears and abs pain. Thei microphone are now better, their editing is close to god tier. Namek truly is where these guys created something epic that is no longer at youtube parody level.

@Martin Toledo I disagree, Masako doesn’t really have that manly “MMPH” that’s kinda required to be a manly warrior. Whereas Sean is close to that by default, not at Chris Sabat levels but close enough, and then Sean can heightened his tone for the comedic relief parts DB and Goku are known for. Also, out of almost every English voice actor I know of, Sean is literally king of the power-up, intense screams.

@Martin Toledo A female voice actor playing a buff warrior man rubs me the wrong way. It works better for a character like Naruto, who isn’t overtly buff and masculine and he’s a teenager in OG and Shippuden, but you need to have that manly gruff part for when a character like Goku gets serious. The Japanese VA can’t do that which is why all of Goku’s serious moments are no longer serious or intense in Japanese variations of it. It’d be like watching a porno where a massively buff black dude enters the shot but only has a 4in Phallus. It’s like you can’t take it seriously anymore, all the bravado and looks and power ups and that’s the actual meat (no pun intended) of the message?! MasakoX is a little better than the Japanese VA, since he has a little bit more manly feel, but I find Sean’s voice to have that perfect bit. His choice with Goku black wasn’t great but I mean, we’re taking about normal Goku here and I think that when Goku has a scream up scene, compare it to the actual feel of the others and I doubt they’ll match up to Sean’s actual intensity, my man has passed out like 3 times doing his screams so you know he’s dedicated like a mf!
