Update: My son is now 5 years old, and I wanted to reach out and share how much your art has influenced him. He fell in love with Mr. Potato Head when he was 2 years old. He first encountered the toy at a children's museum, and ever since then, this guy has been his best friend. He has spent a significant part of his life so far with a potato in his hand, and genuinely values his collection and appreciates the history. In fact, for his 4th birthday, all of his gifts were Mr. Potato Head-related AND older than I am. We couldn't have made him happier! Your stop-motion videos captivated him when he discovered it. He wanted his toy to be able to move like yours. He practiced dubbing the voices of the characters for Mr. Potato Head's journey to find his hat dozens and dozens of times. One day, he asked me about the mechanics behind the video, and I did my best to explain stop-motion to him with my limited understanding. This sort of became something of a defining moment for him. I believe that all children under 4 years old are geniuses to some extent but my child completely astonished me as he used me as a sounding board for several days while he put careful thought into a detailed plan for how he would execute every detail of each scene. This was an evolution of critical thought. I listened to my 3-year-old transform an idea that was just a completely abstract concept to him into a well developed plan that was reasonable and logical. He was completely logical about it, and he did it all within his mind. I am proud as hell of him. I think he's an absolute champion for the amount of effort and time he put into this vision. I hope that he finishes it one of these days, or at least can appreciate his attempt in the future for the defining moment that it was in this epoch of his life. He did choose to halt production, and that's okay. You see, while he was implementing his action plan, he quickly realized that it isn't nearly as easy as you make it look. He learned, to his frustration, that the process of making a stop motion video requires significant time, patience, and at least 2/3rds of the determination of Bruce Lee. That isn't even taking into consideration the ruthless vetting process of self analysis on your quality of work. In so many ways, this became a valuable life lesson for him. The experience taught him not just about the complexities of stop-motion, but about the entire creative process. He's learned that art isn't just a product, but a journey that demands planning, execution, and emotional resilience. He learned practical mechanics, and actually understood them enough to independently come up with a remarkably well developed mental plan. These are significant concepts for a 4-year-old to grasp, and your art served as the catalyst. Now, his artistic interests have expanded in exciting ways. He enjoys voice acting and storytelling, and he is developing a talent for expressing himself in multiple ways. He's figuring out how he feels about being on camera and on stage. He's trying different techniques on people and studying their reaction. He's incredibly talented. He is an artist of many mediums, and it's truly a joy to watch as he grows. So, anyway, I just came back here to say thank you for inspiring my son and indirectly teaching him these life lessons. You helped ignite a passion for the arts in him, but also true creativity and critical thought as he worked out how you made this video that he just adores. This all amounts to competence, and competence is what will ultimately lead him lifelong fulfillment. Your work has not just entertained, but educated and inspired, and for that, we're incredibly grateful and appreciate your time!
