Britains most loved band, they always got that sort of response! Greatest Rock ‘n’ Roll 12 bar boogie band ever. They earned the reaction from the crowd, they paid their dues the old fashioned way. It’s hard to believe but there was a time when they played to almost empty rooms, but they just kept going till the people got it, and boy did we get it.
@leo1314ok3 ай бұрын
And that is why so many Quo fans will tell you that this is their greatest triumph and the song that defines Quo. Your reaction to the live version says it all. Was there that day and it was simply awesome. Lot's of buses from Glasgow down to Milton Keynes, a 6 hour trip but soooo worth it! We all thought it really was the End Of The Road then and I cried unashamedly several times through this! Just masterful, just imagine how long it took to put together over years of rehearsal and deliver it like that live! Shows why they are rated as one of the greatest live bands of all time.

This is the absolute summit of rock 'n' roll stagecraft. Giving the crowd what they want, getting them up and keeping them there for 20+ minutes!. A song honed over a dozen years (at that time) of jamming together and constant gigging to absolute perfection. I still get goose bumps at several points in this song even though I've been lucky enough to experience it live maybe 20+ times in the late 70s and early 80s and have played it on record, tape, CD, DVD and streamed it probably a lot more than 4500 times! There have certainly been more accomplished and talented musicians than Quo but they were unquestionably the best live rock band ever, anywhere, in my opinion. If tonight's show in Taunton is their last show (Rossi is unbelievably 75(!) years old and still rocking) then I just want to thank Francis, Rick, Alan and John and all the other members of Quo through the years for being the soundtrack of my life from the age of about 10 when my mum brought home, Paper Plane and Caroline from the youth club she worked at. Whenever I feel down, I play some Quo and I'll soon be fine. If I'm feeling good, I play some Quo and I feel even better! Great reaction, Mr Rock N Roll. I really envy you for being able to discover Quo as if they were a new band!
@PhilipLawson-w1f3 ай бұрын
I agree with everything said here. I attended last night’s gig at Taunton. They played a blinder and were clearly enjoying themselves. They did or said nothing obvious to suggest they considered it to be a final gig. But, clearly, circumstances can change quickly at their ages. If it is the last, it’s an appropriate place given that it’s less than 25 miles to Minehead where Rick met the rest of the band in 1965 and the rest is history. A homecoming of sorts. Through thick and thin, thanks a million, Quo!
@glenchapman38993 ай бұрын
The one thing you always knew with Quo - You were getting exactly what you paid for. No frills , no apologies, just 12 bar boogie rock for the ages. In terms of musicianship, John Coghlan has always been regarded as one of the best shuffle drummers to come out of the UK. And Rick was definitely up there with the best rhythm players. Francis and Alan, were clearly very competent, but really the didn't need to be much more with the style being played
@JimS-j883 ай бұрын
You said twice in this reaction that you felt like you were on stage with them. That's the essence of a Quo gig, the crowd and the band are as one, in it together. No other band has quite managed to achieve that. There's no other band like Quo!
@markburleyemmerson13733 ай бұрын
That’s the Quo we all know, their classic live anthem 4500 times. At this show Quo we’re using a Tasco 250,000 watt PA system, which at the time was the most powerful system ever used in the UK. From this show checkout Caroline, Roll over lay down, Don’t waste my time & their blistering version of Roadhouse Blues. Any Americans out there picking up on The Quo? 🎸🇬🇧

Their live performances were legendary. Particular songs being part of their established performance for decades, with the evolution of them being self-evident. They did add a little extra on this tour, though, what with it supposedly being their final one! At the time, there was a slight sense of sadness listening to them, as you genuinely thought it was the last time you'd get to hear it being performed, (and you could argue that it was, in the form that Quo took at the time), but as we knew a few years later, that it wasn't exactly the, 'end of the road', more a slight break in a layby. The other 2 songs that epitomise Quo's live work has to be, 'Bye Bye Johnny', and, 'Roadhouse Blues.' If you listen to this trio, (with 4500 Times), then you get to understand just how good they are as a live act. I can't believe it's 40 years since this live performance. How time flies.

Can’t believe it is 40 years since they performed this - truly the end of an era. Without Nuff on bass they just couldn’t rock as hard as they did before. The reunion gigs confirmed this and showcased the original sound with Spud shuffling away on the drums. I have had the pleasure of seeing pretty much everyone there is to see since the 70’s and Quo were by far the best live. If I were to score them at 100, the next best would be around 90, they were that good.
