Mr. Rogers' statue, original neighborhood and grave, Latrobe, Pennsylvania

Fred Rogers, who would become an icon in children's programming on television, was raised in Latrobe, Pennsylvania. A statue of him was placed in a small park in downtown Latrobe, as well as a historical marker about him (Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission).
Rogers is buried with his wife at Unity Cemetery outside Latrobe, where I also visit.

His era of quality TV is gone forever. My favorite book as a kid was a "Pop-Up" book of "Mr Roger's Neighborhood". I also must admit I liked the SNL parody with Eddie Murphy "Mr Robinsons Neighborhood"

Agreed. There will never be another one like him. Apparently he got a kick out of that Mr. Robinsons Neighborhood

As a kid, Mr. Rogers was too soft and gooshy for my taste, but as an adult I have great admiration for his media production career and character.

That's probably the most accurate as to how the average person is/was about Mr. Rogers. Yeah, we were all special in his eyes and we were probably too young to understand self-confidence and similar topics.
