I recently found a Soldano modded '84 JCM 800 2203 (Vertical input) that supposedly was sitting in a storage unit since the 90s. The guy selling it didn't know much about it and I paid $850 for it. There were stickers covering the "JCM 800 " logo. It has an added preamp tube and revoiced preamp. It's a total monster.

I was going to sell my SC20H. Is the mod really gonna help with gain stage? Big difference? Cause I’ve been using pedals for that extra gain. It’s only 2 times I’ve cranked mine and I won’t want to wait a long time again before the kids and wife leave the house for their toys shopping spree sponsored by me only. 😜. I play in the living room always. Will boost it with the DOD250 or SD-1W. I play DIO, Metallica, Deep Purple and a bit of Santana. TIA for your inputs.

I got a fryette PS 100 that will get the tubes warm. Can either boost the sound our have it sound good at room playing levels. George was using a PS 100 at a Lynch Mob show I saw last summer. Been a little bit since I played through it, bought a couple of Friedman heads since then (PT V2 and JEL). Got a MR. Scary Guitar with an Arcane bridge pickup in it. Believe he told me it is 13.5 k ohm. He uses the EVH 500k ohm volume pots on his builds as well.

Excellent stuff bro. Loved the fact you spent the time to show how to install, I think many of us humans would be a lil concerned with the difficulty level, which is clearly very easy. I know I had to figure out the scary in my badlander on my own and it was rather ominous but David being one of the best guys ever made me feel very comfortable to get it done and he has supported me ever since with any questions I had. The mod to me sounds fantastic, almost like it did when u boosted but with more low end and clarity. With the boost is nice and squishy and even more aggressive.

@ChrisCleek3 ай бұрын
umm...no, this amp essentially has a channel volume(front) which determines how hard you drive the PI tube and a master volume(back)which determines how hard you drive the power tubes and the rest of the power section, so the front is a pre PI MV and the back is a post PI MV. i prefer the tone of the stock amp that for me has plenty of gain how you had it set. didn't care for the amp with the pedal or the mod...it was too dark and compressed for me, and WAY TOO MUCH GAIN, again, for my taste

All good. Make sure you have the updated version of the HMV2 which uses a 12AT7 in the first position (above the word “Hot” and 12AX7 in the second position). Also I find in an 800 and many amps, that the down position with the gain switch is optimal. Up position is just full out compression. So gain down and bass switch up. Just FYI if you ever want to try it again.
