I said "upside down, Miss Jane" to the 6 year old today, and he had no idea what I was talking about. So here we are. I'm glad someone has 'tubed some of these. Thanks.

This show had everything a kid like me in the 70s could want. Imagination, suspense, humour, not to mention a rocket, a steam shovel and a rude blackboard! RIP Norman H. See you on the moon.

To all of us kids of the 70's THIS show and Play School had a lot to do with the way we grew up. Both shows were fun with a lot of goofing around and before you knew it you were learning. Nothing was taken too serious but learning was always important. Even when Mr Squiggle walked off or got distracted he was always told to come back and finish his work. 'HE' never screamed 'Abuse' or 'Domestic Violence' when Miss Jane grabbed his arm, he just knew he was being told. I

I do not watch kid's television any more, but it is a shame that there is less shows for them today. TV critics like the shows aired on ABC 3. Most of them are good quality. The commercial stations bury their kid's shows in early morning time slots. Mr Squiggle was fun to watch. It encouraged creativity and imagination.

Mr Squiggle is super trippy. The hat is attached to another pencil above, and the operator draws his picture above, and the head follows below.

Notice that you never see the top of Mr Squiggle's hat? There has to be something about it that makes it possible for the puppet to draw... I am thinking that Norman Hetherington may be holding the hat in some way to create pressure so the pencil can draw. I am not sure, it's just amazing.

No it was shown on the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) weekday afternoons. The clip here was broadcast in the early 80's. The show at the end of the clip was a short French cartoon about a dolphin but I didn't tape it all at the time.
