i like how you've mix n matched factory parts to build a better engine, I've done the same with my sr18di Nissan. its easy to just buy this and that kit from eBay and away ya go, but the JDM cars are funny how subtle changes between models when mixed together can make a pretty peppy package. my engine turned out similar in that I was able to increase duration and lift, compression and wind up speed using g all factory parts. my only downside was my factory ecu being odb1 had a few issues calculating things so I had to invent some wiring ( could not find any info on my di version Sr) to get it running right ( Ish ) I really need an aftermarket ecu to properly dial in a tune but from the feelometer I'd say around a 30-40hp increase.

driving 4 answers a basic rundown is after 16 years and 530k she broke a ring or two and was burning more oil than gas. I found a donor n14 gti pulsar, pulled the flat top pistons ( mine were dished ). cams from non roller gti highport on my roller lowport head, shaved head, gti headers ( on the di with its smaller ports the factory gti 4-2-1 headers are as good as extractors, gti flywheel, and removed weird intake baffle / butterfly's in each port.

driving 4 answers issues arised from removing the intake baffle thing. it was vacuum actuated and had a sensor to adjust mixture. with it just hanging it was telling ecu to supply idle mixture. now with it bridged its sends wot mixture all the time. so she's over fueling until wide open but that kinda suits my driving style anyway. I'd like to build my own system but I cannot find any literature in the di. even the Nissan workshop manuals exclude it.

Any workflow tips?
@d4a6 жыл бұрын
Oh man I could talk about that for hours. I went through so many different stages of working/filming/editing you would not believe it. It's a really complex process and takes quite some time to improve. One big thing that helped me is to write a small bullet point script for every video. I used to just record and start talking without thinking what I want to say and what is actually relevant. I would then end up with a lot of useless footage that was a nightmare to edit. So maybe like this. Think about what is relevant, don't even film anything else. Visualize the video before you start recording it. Make reminders about what to focus on while filming. As soon as you have footage edit it. Don't let it pile up, it will confuse you later. So this is just where I am at right now, and I will probably figure out something better later on and my future self will yet again laugh at my present self. For some reason I imagined my future self with a monocle giggling in an irritant manner and saying "oh my dear naive boy".

@d4a5 жыл бұрын
Hey there, thank you for your continued support. Car is not yet on the road as it's winter here, lots of snow and I won't drive it before spring. So we will know everything in Spring. I do expect quite a bit more carb tuning once I start driving. I don't expect to know whether it burns oil as I change oil far sooner than recommended. I will keep changing it often until I get the carbs completely dialed in as they are running rich for safety now, and the overly rich mixture dilutes the oil sooner than normal. Feel free to ask if you have any other questions.

@d4a6 жыл бұрын
As far as I know the 4age 16v twin cam head fits on the 4ac block. It's the same block. But the internals of your block are different to the 4age internals. They are not designed for the same rpms and will not last long at high rpms were the 4age head makes most power. Also the indents for the valves in your pistons won't be right. I think it's a lot easier to get a whole 4age engine and just swap it into your corolla. The 4age engine is still relatively plentiful. You can find it on junkyards, engine importers or breakers I guess.

Hopefully you don’t get a lean mixture because a lot of people have had issues with carbs on 4age engine and causing it to run lean at higher RPM’s .because you just can’t run the carbs as they are not enough fuel for the 4age engine I’ve seen holes in pistons and damage to ring lands and liner or sleeve
@d4a6 жыл бұрын
You're right, the carbs as they are will usually make a funny air fuel mixture. This of course makes sense since they were originally intended to supply fuel to a 600cc motorcycle, which weighs less then a third of my mr2. But that's where jetting and my AEM wideband gauge come in place. I will have constant real time air fuel mixture monitoring to avoid leaning out and will jet the carbs accordingly at different throttle positions.
@alycestapleton6 жыл бұрын
driving 4 answers cheers for the reply mate hopefully you’ll sort out any fuel related issues . many people tell me about their 4age engine with carbs conversion it’s something different /fun to drive ,but has a couple of issues most people just leave it with the fuel injection but I’ve seen them both go head to head on the race track and it’s very even maybe only if it’s was a turbo 4age with fuel injection. I’ve got 3 4age engines one being a 20v in my ae82 had originally a small port 16v ,and now I’m planning to put that 16v in a ford laser KE fwd

Does anyone know how difficult it is to do the head gasket on this engine for a first timer
@d4a6 жыл бұрын
If it is your first ever job on a car, like you never even changed the oil before then I would not recommend it. But that's not to say that you can't do it. I would suggest you start with the factory service manual a.k.a. the BGB (big green book) where there are detailed instructions on how to replace the head gasket and everything else. A plus is that this is an old school engine so it's far less complicated than modern marvels of engineering. At a minimum you will need to remove the head and get it to a machine shop to have it straightened again. You will need a few other gaskets replaced as well, mostly for coolant. Replacing the head gasket might also be a good opportunity to upgrade the engine a bit, maybe put it in some sporty cams, since you will be removing them anyway. I would also suggest replacing the water pump and the thermostat, since they are inexpensive items.
@johns36556 жыл бұрын

I'm lost as to how this is different from a ITB stand point? ITB vs. Bike carb? Looks the same to me well i guess other than the fact itb typically right? Typically uses fuel injection, port injection or w\e and bike carb is a carb lol.
@d4a6 жыл бұрын
You said it. ITB is fuel injection and a carb is a carb. Supplies fuel by relying on the venturi effect, whereas the itbs rely on fuel injectors. The word itb is kinds misleading though. It stands for individual throttle bodies and explains nothing about fuel delivery. Bike carbs are also ITBs because they do have an individual throttle body for each cylinder. So it would be more appropriate to say a fuel injected engine with itbs or an engine with bike carbs. But since we all know what is what, just saying itbs is just as good.
