Nerd time MasterWorks states that the giant dome structure underneath the castle is the Astral Observatory, which was created by the Sheikah to research celestial bodies. I figure that when the Sheikah tech was banned, a new floor was built over the entrance to the observatory to keep people from gaining access. One of the hidden passages in the library shows that some of its wall was uncovered during the excavations looking for the Guardians around the castle. For anyone who owns a copy of MasterWorks, it's on page 254 if you want to check it out. In all seriousness, this was a fantastic end to this chaotic series! Can't wait to see what comes next!

Yeah I always figured this room was like the castle's "general meeting room" or something, like in the Champion's Ballad final clip where the King is bestowing the Champions and you see the castle guard in the background I assumed that was the same room obviously before Calamity

Probably the dome was an astral observatory. There are constellations on the walls, and some locations in Hyrule like Rito village, dueling peaks, gerudo highlands, Hebra mountain, and Death mountain are at the bottom of the walls.

11:05 it’s an astral observatory made by the sheikah predict the constellations and stars, it was obviously built over but gannon’s weight destroyed the floor and fell into the astral observatory, there is actually a room in Hyrulnizam castle where they had uncovered it.

The hole under the castle was made by the shekia, and corrupted by Gannon. Don't believe me? Look at the final room and the last trial of the sword room. They are exactly the same, but one's corrupted, and the other is not.

The gaurdian storage is actually in the pillars. It's in Creating a Champion and in one of the cutscenes. My theory for the dome is that it was for looking at the stars, because there are a bunch of star-like patterns. P.S. (The dome has to be old because it shows King Rhoam was digging it up in a cutscene, so it was probably just an observatory for looking at stars built by the sheikah.
