RD Burman is a genius and everyone knows that but this particular song will be remembered for its amazing lyrics by Anand Bakshi. Opening lines of every stanza are written so carefully, that listeners can not gauge, in what direction the following line of verse will go. But, when one eventually gets to hear the next line of couplet, he/she wonders, how the hell he managed to join the two dots? Its on trajectory beyond one's anticipation.The suspense Anand bakshi has created in just two lines of his couplets in every stanza, shows how skillful lyricist he was. Amazing writing. Very reminiscent of Ghalib style. Listen carefully, if you missed the point.

I had heard somewhere that Anand Bakshi took inspiration from a famous Ghazal, written by Khatir Ghazalvi and sung by Mehdi Hassan sahab, ( 'Jo zara si baat par' ) and wrote the mukhda of this song 'Kya huya ek baat per barson ka yaarana gaya'. Anyways, he only took the inspiration for writing the mukhda of this song and antras of this song are originally written by him. Anand Bakshi wrote beautiful songs for this film 'Teri Kasam' and all songs became very popular that time. 'Ye zameen ga rahi hai' is still very famous, 'Dil ki baat kahin lab pe na aa jaye' is awesome and the duet song 'Hum jis raaste pe chale' is also mindblowing.

Referring to actor n play back singer combo , there was a star kid who was launched in early 80s, Kumar Gaurav, son of jubilee king Rajendra Kumar! Gaurav’s launchpad Love Story back in 1981 was superb duper hit n Trade Pandits back then had projected Gaurav as next superstar after Amitabh Bachchan! However despite of being complete package as hero material (Handsome looks , great screen presence n immense acting capabilities) and most importantly in pure musical sense Gaurav had perfectly matching playback voice on screen from playback singer Amit Kumar (who is son of legendary Kishore Kumar) ! Despite of all potential that trade pundits in Bollywood had projected at that time due to sheer stroke of bad luck, Gaurav has been to reduced to some footer entry today unfortunately! However I can not help think immensely talented Gaurav just had some stroke of luck from destiny, today we could have seen Kumar Gaurav n his perfect playback voice on the screen Amit Kumar get into same league as RAJ Kapoor- Mukesh, Shammi Kapoor- Mohd Rafi, Dilip Kumar- Mohd Rafi, Rajesh Khanna -Kishore Kumar, Amitabh Bachchan-Kishore Kumar , Aamir Khan - Udit Narayan as perhaps Kumar Gaurav-Amit Kumar if only luck would have favored enough Gaurav and Amit! However in one interview recently, Gaurav has said so succinctly, “ My super stardom was grace of God! I really wished it had sustained longer! It’s abrupt demise left myself n my onscreen playback singing voice Amit Kumar out of luck” You may not have been commercially successful Gaurav but I salute you for your honesty n integrity 🙏🙏
