I agree with Zack that MrBeast's production should compensate him for his work, no matter how small, but asking viewers to donate through GoFundMe seems entirely unrelated, especially since he's not currently in a dire financial situation. He even mentioned he's an editor for several big channels. If he feels wronged by MrBeast's production, he should consider legal action, not asking his viewers for funding. To be fair, this kind of "idea theft" through fake opportunities happens quite often. In my experience working at a consulting firm, clients sometimes send detailed RFPs (Request for Proposals) with the sole intention of brainstorming ideas without any real intention of moving forward with the project. So, I can somewhat believe it could have happened to him. However, in this case, it feels like he's just trying to capitalize on the current drama, using the "scammed-by-MrBeast" narrative (which likely true) as a justification to start a GoFundMe campaign.

I dont you know how the law works in the us , legal action is very commonly just not worth it because its too expensive , why hire a lawyer if the lawyer will be more expensive than the money youd get by winning? thats why big companies always drag out legal cases , they hope you go broke or give up.

This is just a cash grab. I'm an engineer, it's common as dog shit to fly people out for interviews, there's no compensation involved in that aside from flights, hotel, any other fees, etc. BUT, it's usually just a half day or full day interview to vibe check with the team, knowledge test, and manager interview, not a 3 day collab, and I get that it's different b/c it's more a creative thing. I'd say for something like THAT, where you're actually brainstorming on an actual potential project, THAT needs to be comped standard pay for those 3 days. If it was JUST the interview though? I'd say nah, paying all fees is fine. You don't need to get comp'd for your time to attend an interview. You are not THAT good that the company should have to pay your hourly fee like you're some sort of consultant just for potential employment. And yea, as far as royalties go, the iPad NDA is standard at any company, he's not legally entitled to anything. Also, when proving IP theft in court one of the tests that has to be passed is "would this thing be common sense to an expert in this field", that is to say you can't patent a common sense power cut-off circuit or something and then ask Microsoft and Apple for royalties. And I don't think this passes that test. I think to somebody looking to create "games" as Mr. Beast's company was, a platforming bit like this is common sense, and Mario being one of the most ubiquitous games in existence is common sense, the movie at the time was a HUGE blockbuster, and obviously previous platforming challenges like "American Ninja Warrior" or whatever have all been done, so there's no case there from a multitude of perspectives. And to me whether the CEO is a billionaire or not isn't relevant to the ethics. Just because somebody HAS the money doesn't mean they OWE you the money. So yea, IDK. I don't have an opinion on Mr. Beast, I don't watch his stuff, but to me this video came off like whining about something he doesn't understand, right up until he got frustrated at the end and then posted a gofundme link, at which point it just looked like a desperate cash grab. Whole video rubs me the wrong way, I feel like he feels he's entitled to stuff he simply isn't - at all. That being said, I get that it sucks to feel like your ideas are ripped off.

The bit that caught my attention and leads me to believe they are using people to brainstorm and take preferred ideas to use as their own is him saying there were various people coming in and out i.e. my day 1 was day 3 for another person, my day 2 was another's day 1. That certainly sounds like a revolving door of people brought in specifically to brain storm then not being compensated for ideas or time. Neither of which appear to be the claimed purpose for the visit; i.e. 'to see if you vibe with other employees for a possible job'. Kids today do think their ideas are extremely original and when say architects have to 'change 3 things' to claim a plan as their own, I can understand why.

@@tkps This is the bit I think many people are missing. If they ask every applicant for a pitch and ideas, and make the best people come for a couple days of brainstorming sessions, they can get hundreds if not thousands of ideas for a fraction of what it would normally cost. All under the guise of "potential employment". I bet there are hundreds of other people with a similar story. This is sadly not an uncommon business practice - and it's very hard to prove any wrongdoing, especially since individual applicants often just think they failed without realizing there wasn't really a job opening in the first place.

@@FrankBrennosTheGreatest I vibe with this comment thread. The whole idea of flying talented people out to a fake job interview, asking them to brainstorm ideas for a potential opening and throw them out like used tissues. It reminds me of my earlier days as a freelancer. I got into freelancing while I was 12 and was mainly doing fun small projects left and right. But sometimes there would be big projects that would span over many months or maybe over an year that I would work really hard for. Ultimately most of those projects would be startups or scammers making young people do their work for a chump change or most of the times nada and that really warped my mind about trusting people from an earlier age.

Here in the EU, trial periods are payed and under a temp contract. After the contract ends you give them a perma contract or jus let them go. Anything made in the temp time is property of the company. But letting some one work in your company and not paying them is illegal and considered slave labor. The ONLY exeption, is if it is a student that needs do do a job for a month or so as part of the education program. Not a student job, technically the company has a contract with the school, telling them what they can or can not ask of them. And even then they need to fill in papers if they "have to fire" the student". Regular checkups from teachers are done in the company to see there is no exploitation. But these are students that have not yet completed the course they are studying to do the job they are doing. And even those are payed jobs or jobs that you get a gift for at the end. Tho it is not obligated as it is part of your studies. So yhea, here this would be considered as steeling this guys work. And the company could be sued for not paying him + damages. If he got payed for the time there, with a contact they told him about. Then they can use it. Else, it's a court thing. So they just should have payed him and this would have been fine.

Also the first prompt he was given was make a dangerous trap room, a floating obstacle coarse isn't a trap room. He pitched exactly the same idea for 3 different themes, he didn't adapt once, there wasn't a single time he moved to a new theme and had a new idea. He came up with something at the very start before he even got there and then proceeded to run with it until he could convince someone to do it. I also notice the very first idea on the board is american ninja, which is basically exactly what it is just in the air, where his mario thing is written at the bottom (clearly added at the end, he wanted to make it his instead of saying ok yes american ninja works for my idea it's basically the same thing, he had to make it clear it was mario) Again you can see why he didn't make it past the 3 days. He has an idea and regardless of cost or situation he just pitches it until it happens. Getting hyper fixated on a single idea when your job would be to pump out ideas is a massive red flag.

I have a trap room idea too. You are in a room with 2 parallel frozen corndog on poles protruding into the center of the room. You have 10 minutes to thaw and cook both corndogs, using friction; from frozen to eatable or the room fills to the top with yellow mustard and you drown in it. If both corndog reach food-safe temperatures you are able to exit safely. Boom. Enjoy your free idea MrBeast.

Asmond is totally right on this take. He might be owed a couple of bucks for a few days work and he should get that if he didn't get that. In fact it would have been on Mr beast interest to do that because if he was working for Mr beast at the time, then Mr beast owned the ideas he put forth. If he doesn't get paid then he might make the argument that he is the owner of the idea, but the idea was super basic and he most likely won't win that.. so at most he's owed a few days of work that he should be paid for. And in his defense for the horrible presentation, he said he really sucks as an on screen personality and I think that was on display here

It's a good observation, so for this to become substantial it requires extra confirmation. For example, another Mr Beast employee showing a picture of the same place or agreeing that it the wall has the same features, or even outright saying that they saw what this picture depicts. Emails - yes. Facebook - public so it's easier to verify, although can't say what was deleted. However, he is not a random online username, he showed his face, real name, and put his future employment at risk. As said in other videos (and common rule of the land) - he will probably never get invited for anything again by them. (And with HR being HR other companies might avoid him too.) On top of that, he could receive a cease and desist and perhaps even a defamation threat, which shouldn't happen but is possible. Therefore he has "paid his entry ticket" for further examination.

The thing about making a video to explain 1 detail that spans over 20 minutes is you need an energizing personality to pull it off. With at least Dogpack, he crammed a lot into an hour video and the next video he interviewed a former work at the Mr Beast company. I too have this habit of going over tangent to help build the story, sometimes my comments get too long I can joke they look like essays if I get carried away. When it comes to listening to someone though, especially in a time when a lot of younger people have an attention span problem, it seems to take away the message when people’s take away is they felt like they wasted time for something that could be explained for half of the time or less. Didn’t help he actually expected $1.7 million for everyone to fund him when his complaint was that he pitched an idea and didn’t get paid for it. He should complain about taking his time to be a part of this trial to use his idea and not get paid, however it is not the equivalent of the price of the project. 🤨

My interview consisted of me designing a t-shirt with a local middle school mascot and I had to come up with some way to make it more "exciting". About a week later I was told I didn't get the job. Then almost a year later while at the store I saw some kid walking around wearing a shirt with my design on it. My best guess is the shop was asked to make revamp the design so they made a job listing to attract graphic design artists, then they just presented the designs as their own and got the contract from the school.

Something that enrages me is companies being petty cheap, like no reimbursing someone 100$ for a company plane ride, or 50$ for a motel room, or 15$ for a meal order during an ordered overtime job. If you pay the guy minimum vague, i can see the argument, if you are a small company like a 5 guy indie company, i can see the argument. But if you employ a larger team and earn enough to have multiple teams, and even someone working on accounting, it wont cost you that much to just send a picture of a receipt to the accountant and have him note it down and send the money. Same with doing short term hires and interns, it wont cost you that much to just write a short summary of what he has done and then just send him some cash, for work like this he does not need a credit in the video or anything, but in the books there should be written down that he did the storyboarding (or whatever the event equivalent would be called) in the company books and then just sending him like 100$ or so, as well as reimbursing him for the plane ride and lodging. Its okay to be cheap and save money, but do it where it counts, not petty shit like this where the bad word of mouth would cost you more then the money to save on not doing it. Its just like removing the fruit bowl or coffee brake, it dosnt cost you that much to keep it, but the bad vibes you get from removing it cost so much productivity.
