Love this book! kzbin.infoUgkxpCNxqmAkyjN6NPx1fyB7QiEFWyO5mUWL it is simply one-of-a-kind! I really love it, because karah explained all tools required to have the job done, not mentioning the fabulous diy pallets ideas. I'm pretty sure this will be a fresh start in my new endeavour. Amazon was great, they delivered on time. Thank you!

came out fantastic! A little tip on that glass fiber mesh (called scrim) - it is embedded in the same way you would rebar, so between the two backer coats. I've seen Grey Element do some super thin projects using just the scrim and no fibers. Looking forward to seeing what you can do now that you've got GFRC in your arsenal of skills!

Another great job! Love the subtle flex with the Porsche shot on the carry in too.

Great job! My only critique would be you should have waited to put the mantle on until after you did the plaster so you didn't see the plaster edge above/below the mantle. Love your channel, been watching you for years.
@striketochill Жыл бұрын
Agree! Looks a little sloppy where it meets the mantle which obviously nobody will really see but I'd do the full plaster job first next go around.
@Phazetic99 Жыл бұрын
As a mudder and doing lots of fancy fireplaces lately, I agree. I was thinking the exact same thing and came to say it. I really like the idea of that product you made the hearth with. Definitely gonna look it up and see if I can get some to play with. I got some ideas for that. Thanks for the video, peace

I think he went the safe route. The plastered wall is textured so the ability to set the mantel flush after would've been difficult. He could've just blended it a little better

"hearth" pronounced "harth", but I love the way you build and explain things. I also love the fact that you show mistakes and how you overcome them.
@slbentley Жыл бұрын
I was so glad this is the first comment I saw. This video and the one where he did the outside fireplace he pronounced it “hurth” and I was afraid I had been pronouncing it wrong my whole life.

Hearth is pronounced as Heart with an h on the end, not H + Earth
@matthewpeterson3329 Жыл бұрын
I made this same statement on another video he did where he repeatedly said "herth". I wonder if it is a regional thing, like crick instead of creek, or warsh instead of wash? April Wilkerson says "soll" instead of saw... and has made fun of herself for doing it.

Hey brother, I've watched your channel for a long time. And I really enjoy your channel. And your content. Because I started doing what I do, work wise. I was drawn to your channel, because of the way you go through each step. And explain things, and teach as you do. Anyhow all of that to say, your channel is a good channel for anyone looking to do any type of remodel, update, Reno, or repair! Keep up the great work my friend. Also do you know that the company Freud, that produces the Diablo line of sandpaper, blades, bits, and so on. Well they also make t-shank jigsaw blades, where half the teeth on the blade are cutting up and half cutting down. Therefore when you're cutting through a 3/4" sheet of material for example. Has very little, if any tear out. They are a pretty nice blade to have in your kit/shop. Alright, until next time, take it easy brother!

With the venetian plaster the best way to get the proper concrete finish is spread the plaster on the way you done the first coat applying it in different directions maybe doing around 3 ft x 3 ft and then putting your trowel on flat to the wall and going in a swirling motions all over the area you just plastered. When you do the next section beside it and start doing the swirling motion just overlap the part you done previously

If I remember well from watching Modustrial Maker videos, you should seal concrete counters because they're easy to get stained. But for first time, it turned out great. Apropo Venetian plaster, think you went too bright to get that effect, I don't have any experience with it beside what I saw on This Old House and other home renovation videos, all of them went for some darker moody tones and then with different lightning conditions you get that effect.

A fireplace Hearth is pronounced 'Harth'. Concrete has large 'arch' or 'arc' swipes for a faux texture. & the mesh for the concrete is supposed to go in between the 2 layers of backer coat.

Just guessing, but when you said they recommend a hawk and trowel...is that because of the "concrete" look? I thought your 12 inch blade that you used was way faster and did a great job. An actual trowel would have sucked.
