There are a lot of tourists that cross that bridge and a lot of tight crowded spaces. It is kind of a bad look. I agree. But someone who is trained to use something is completely different than a tourist that just rented one that day and is on one for the first time and panics and gets whiskey throttle because they’re going too slow and start to fall over and hits someone. Especially on a high bridge like that with lots of traffic. He’s an experienced rider and even he was complaining about how touchy the throttle is on the scooter he rode that day.

E bikes are allowed as long as you stay within the speed limits 15 mph on path and 5 around the towers. May have been the mono wheel

it would make more sense if the law were updated to be, all ev’s not to exceed 5 miles per hour while on the bridge. i mean, this seems logical. this reminds me of when electric kick scooters first became extremely popular on campus a few years ago, for example, ucla had signs everywhere, big signs that were literally blocking part of each walkway, stating, no scooters allowed. now, approximately eight or so years later, i see enormous quantities of electric scooters everywhere on campus, riding everywhere that people walk, and yes, slowly. police always say its all about public safety. if the scooters are traveling walking speed, there is a very good chance that the public will feel much safer than a scooter passing people on sidewalks and walkways at dangerous speeds. which is much less frequent now. i also see many or most micro mobility riders utilizing some kind of bell, which is a welcomed courtesy, which everyone appreciates. you were both traveling at a very low speed. i think one day soon(hopefully) they can update the laws to permit low speed use of micro mobility, in such places. or create a micro mobility accessible and usable lane. thus permitting various types and kinds of electric powered micro mobility.

I've been over the bridge a few times on a racer bike as well as a mountain bike but not yet on my bike. Between the winds and the fog it's not advisable to go fast. The path has tons of obstacles and two fast 180 degree turns around the towers. Normally the east sidewalk is for peds and the ocean side for bikes but if one side is closed then it slows things down to a walk. The best part in my book is the exit on the sidewalk to the road down to Sausalito then take the ferry back from either Sausalito or Larkspur Landing.

I would imagine it’s because you don’t have as much control over a motorized vehicle as you do on a bicycle you’re peddling or a scooter you’re pushing and some spots on that bridge are really tight and crowded. I would be able to do it but one bad throttle twist from someone less experienced having a moment of panic because they’re going too slowly and start to fall over and someone could get hurt. It’s probably already happened multiple times for them to have that rule.

SF is pretty liberal when it comes to what kinds of vehicles they allow on their roads but I think this is a good rule to have for that bridge. You guys just didn’t know and you were still respectful of the other people and the patrol was nice about it too. No harm done. So wholesome. Haha

I read that Golden Gate Bridge Patrol is technically security for the Bridge District. They're armed and appear as law enforcement, but they don't issue traffic tickets or write reports for suicide jumps from the bridge... It's a California Highway Patrol responsibility. True story, I was recently searching for a CPRA to verify a bridge emergency that appeared like a suicide with Coast Guard, Fire Department, and Bridge Patrol on scene....CHP not there yet. The point is, I wonder what would have happened if that bicycle wasn't in the way and you continued on your way. Reverse or a 3 point turn?

I rode my Super73 across the bridge with no issues! I just looked up the rules on the Golden Gate Bridge website. E-bikes ARE allowed but "Electric scooters (E-Scooters) and similar devices" are not. I think it's messed up that e-scooters have different rules than bikes. Supposedly it's because of "limited space and often congested conditions" but it takes up the same amount of space as a bike, if not less.

I made a comment on here and said the exact same thing that Ebikes are allowed but scooters aren’t and scooters are actually smaller than bikes and can fit in tighter areas because bicycles have bigger handlebars, and are more bulky

I remember a few years back I walked on the bridge and there were people on all sorts of vehicles going super fast next to pedestrians. I figure they were working on the other side because now it's open and I've noticed that they separate pedestrian traffic on one side, and wheel traffic on the other. Not sure what the rules are on electric scooters and such these days, it would be cool if they allow it, I'd take my scooter there just for that because the bridge is long and I'm out of shape lol.

Depends on the laws. No motorized vehicle does not necessarily cut out e-bikes . In Florida my e-bike is not classified as (motorized vehicle) whole separate classification then e-bike. I ride a Lectric 3.0 which has e-bike classification . I can ride anywhere a regular bike can . I believe an e-bike above 750watts without pedals is then classified either as moped or motorized vehicle .

Cyclists must observe 15 mph bicycle speed limit on Bridge sidewalks, and slow to 5 mph around the towers. All classes of e-Bikes are allowed on the Bridge and expected to adhere to rules for cyclists.

I've had the same thing happened to me on my Motoped. They changed it bicycles used to only be allowed on the other side and the side you're on now is just for walking. I love how they're perfectly fine driving a UTV down that path but you can't ride an electric scooter which is no different than a bicycle.
