That would be great. The quest could involve gathering enough settlers in the castle, and they ‘shovel” at the debris piles. After several in game days the piles will be flattened. Then you are sent to one of the quarries in the Commonwealth , clear out raiders, and turn it into a settlement. Then gather quest specific settlers across the commonwealth to agree to ‘work the quarry” to gather stone and cement. After that the walls can be rebuilt. Oh but to dream…

If you’re on PC, there’s literally a mod that does it for you. The way it works says there’s like a symbol to repair the wall. If you have the materials you can go ahead and just hit repairing it build it back for you right in front of your eyes.

If you're on a console did you know you could group select the whole wall. Place a fence post as close as you can to it first. (The fence post allows you to raise or sink the wall and if you don't have add ons or DLCs then the white picket fence post works best.) after placing the post then group select by holding down the select button. Just make sure your walls are not too close to other items you have placed or you will grab everything. It doesn't just work of floors but most everything. You can sink items into walls or the ground. There are some amazing videos on this and I just found out about it a couple weeks ago.

I usually start at the bottom, in the middle. You can use a shack wall to stack the foundations perfectly. You actually can adjust both horizontally and vertically by group-selecting the wall after you've built it. Then I can place my gate, and I don't have gaps on the ends. I also play around with the wall placement until I get a relatively continuous wall all the way around that the Minutemen can patrol. Note: Make sure that you've completed "Big guns" before you start burying foundations because they can block the passages that you need to walk for that quest.

Started my Fallout 4 playthrough around 5 months ago, I have like 3 days in game time but I've gotten to the castle, opening up the castle armory, and now I'm trying to manage all my settlements making sure they're protected but also able to survive by themselves. But the Castle and Starlight drive-in have always given me trouble. Nice to see this video on fixing the castle wall, and I also tried to fix the castle's metal bridge going around the left side, I did it with wood platforms but I may just go and try metal floors with scaffolding and try this while I'm at it. But I'm wondering if it's possible to make the shack foundation wall 2 wide, filling in the castle wall almost completely

Also, in case you haven't played around with it much, something I didn't mention in the video, if you hold down your interact key/confirm key, on the PC it is E, and point at a group of things you can move them all together. I figured that out a long time ago when I was playing the game, only difference was I didn't use the floor with stairs so I could put the bottom blocks in, and I never used a wooden floor as a guideline to start from. pretty darn easy.

I use the far harbor tab... I put the building walls on the outside of the existing walls then use the foundations to rebuild the castle walls...it takes a bit more concrete but is well worth it.

If playing on Xbox, hold A on a piece that you wish to move. Holding A will select all pieces that are connected. Then you can use the triggers to rotate the whole thing. This will help you get things straightened quicker.

If you're wondering why you can't fix the fort normally, it's because the rubble is connected to a precombine. Removing it or tampering with it causes countless things to rendee as individual objects instead of one big one globally, meaning even as far as downdown boston by greentech genetics you're going to be getting like 10fps

Nice guide! I personally use barn foundation instead. Attaching the half height wall allows me to overlap two or more blocks together to create a level foundation and wall. That said, shack foundation seem so much eaier to use!

There is a really great mod that repairs the Castle, it's called something like that "Castle Rapaired" I think. It fixes the walls and takes away that massive heap of ruble. It Also opens up one new room by the kitchen and like 5 more rooms by the armory. There should have been a Minute Man mission where we could have restored it to that state.

My biggest disappointment in this game is spending SO much time turning the settlements into fortresses and never ‘really’ coming under attack… nothing that would really threaten them anyway. An online mode where you could build bases and go to war would be great (unless this is already a thing? Maybe on PC?)

Console commands are your best friend when building walls and such. You can control x/y/z - a/b/c item movement at the pixel level.

Honestly this can simply be fixed with mods, the problem is for a lot of people, back then, on the consoles those weren't (and perhaps now still aren't) available. ...as such I wanted to show off a way to "manually" fix it.

The trick with the shack floor appears in every build video that involves stacking foundation blocks. If you build your wall across the gap and it isn't quite straight, don't delete it and try again. You can group select the entire thing and rotate it into alignment. That avoids the perspective problem he mentions. Lastly, there is a mod that gives you wall replacement pieces; you can replace the missing section of each wall with a one piece object and even put a doorway on the north side (facing the city).
