Mr Marshall Diaries Ep 4 || Out And About For The First Time || He Won't Settle In The Living Room

Hello you!
As you know, when we moved from London to Southampton in 2021 we planned on eventually getting a dog. It's the fourth instalment of our ongoing diary as new puppy owners.
It's December, Marshall has had is second jab a few weeks ago so now we can finally take him out. Come with us for his first walk and his first trip to Pets at Home. Being able to take him out has much such a difference in his behaviour [and to his biting]. Our boy is getting bigger by the week and we have family visiting so we want to socialise him to the rest of the house as soon as possible. Getting him to settle in the living room has been unexpectedly challenging - more than we had ever imagined and we have no idea why.

C’mon boys - the broken toys just need a little sew up and they’ll be as good as new!! 👍🏻😀 You can do it!! Yaaay for goldens - I have a golden girl and she’s the apple of my eye!! Mr Marshall will settle down and he will be the best, most faithful friend you will ever have. ❤️❤️

You could use all those ridiculously early mornings to sew the toys up 😂 I wish I'd given my dog a proper bone to chew on much earlier. Gives them much more satisfaction and can actually shorten the biting phase

Hi David and Ian hope your both well, I was amazed that, Marshall was so, well behaved for,his proper walk and going to the pet store.. when I took, my cockerpoo puppy OZZIE who is 7 months old now, out for his walk, he thought that, everyone would make a big fuss of him, he would, just sit n wonder why people are not, stopping n he's such a friendly dog, but he's not sure about other dogs yet, anyway Marshall is gorgeous boy, take care n give Marshall a hug from me 😊😊

Awww, bless Ozzie! Too cute! Hope people stop and make a fuss of him now. And we have been lucky that very few new encounters faze Marshall... but try and change the bin bag in the kitchen bin and he’s hiding in the corner 🤷🏼‍♂️

Some people do, make fuss of my ozzie, trouble is he gets to excited and starts to jump up, at people and I'm trying to stop him from ,doing that... especially when he has, wet paws 🐾 n when I take him, walks its like, he's taking me 4 a walk, he's so strong 4 a 7 month old pup 🐶 n the toys he's gone, oh my days n he's loves sitting on my feet!!! Hahaha!! 😂😂

Wow, Mr Marshall is doubling in size with each new diary episode. And I'm glad you picked up on his need for outdoor exercise/walks. The combination of regular exercise and Ian exercising his control over Mr Marshall and, apparently also David, will probably bring an end to the biting from Mr Marshall and David too! My nieces golden is now 18 months,it’s like watching him all over again. Unfortunately he still has mouthing moments, but he is so good the rest of the time. So I would suggest being very firm when he does this, one of you speaking not both at the same time. Also a good trainer now when he is more likely to learn. They also live in a three story and didn’t settle upstairs until he was about 8 months old. You will get there, time and patience, keep going.

Oh that’s good to know that your niece’s golden took months to settle upstairs. We keep reminding ourselves he’s still a puppy. And we re booked into training classes next month as we missed the start of the autumn ones. Thanks ever so much for sharing your insight - it’s really helpful!

He is looking so handsome! It is really hard work, but with the walking things will get better, he will be more stimulated and get tired…I am hoping, for you, in the next update, you will be able to be in your lounge more 🤞🏼. Keep going guys and seek advice if you need it. Group training by a recommended dog trainer is a great way to learn and to get moral support when you feel it’s not going right. Looking out for the next cute update!

Thanks Victoria. He’s started classes and they’re helping. Plus he’s now a bit older so the previous issues have improved... even though there are new ones! Thankfully the end of the baby shark teeth. Hurrah! 🙌

Now Mr Marshall has had all his jabs, could you give him supervised access to the whole back garden ( if it’s secure) that will release some engery ? PS He is one lovely boy

Hi Jane. We do plan to however he is at the stage where he likes to eat everything he finds - and we know we have some poisonous plants out back, but to mention brambles coming through the lawn. And it’s been so, so wet we can’t deal with the mud - that would push us over the edge 🤦🏼‍♂️ But once the weather improves and we can do some tidy up the garden is his.

Catching up with your Marshall videos. I'm sure all your hard work will payoff.. like everything, it's one step forward and two back some days. Good to hear he's enjoyed a walk around C'Ford! Hiltingbury rec is a nice open park for a walk/run around. Seems very popular with dog walkers around here at least.

We would love to go, it sounds good fun. The only problem is I'm currently full of this cold thats going around and Lucy has started sneezing today, so I would worry we'd risk not feeling clear enough to go and would hate to waste them if anyone else could make use.

Oh no, Marshall, the toy destroyer extrodinaire 😂 Cant tell you the number of times i've performed surgery on Rosebud's toys. At least my sewing skills are improving 😉 I remember when Rosebud started humping her bed, my daughter was perplexed, so we told her the dog was just dancing with it. That came back to bite us on the bum when she demonstrated, quite emphatically, to my next door neighbour how Rosebud 'dances' with her bed!!!! . Thought he was going to die laughing 😅😅

@MrDavidMrIan haha, yeah, they do. I'd no idea girl dogs would do that either. It was a bit of a shock. Hence why I came up with the dancing explanation, was thinking on my feet, and didn't know what else to say 🤣. I think it goes on behind the scenes in Strictly to be fair!!!!

A body count that has increased since then 🤦🏼‍♂️ Whoever invents a puppy proof toy will retire on the proceeds! And not looked into turning off the washing machine ditty - it is a good reminder that it was on and that there is laundry to hang (as we tend to forget) so we’ve now made peace with it, Errol.
