Hello you - if this is your first time here then welcome. We are David and Ian and we've just moved from a one bedroom flat in London to a three bedroom house in the Hamptons... well, Southampton.
This weekend was as fun as watching paint dry! With Storming Eunice blowing in and fighting our fences we start a long weekend redecorating the kitchen. We've had plans since before we moved in to paint it white except for the main wall, which we are planning on painting green. But before we can do any of that we need to prepare, prepare, prepare! Old random screws need to be removed and filled, woodwork needs to be rubbed down and we need to mask up so that we dont get paint everywhere.
Add in a blood blister, a bad back and the biggest storm on thirty years then what could possibly go wrong [or right]?

Haha loved the Dexter kitchen 😱 the tape down the corners is the the joint for dry lined walls, ours lifted and Mark had to fix them all when we redecorated rooms 😞 looking forward to seeing the finished kitchen and hope David’s back is feeling better soon xx

I knew you’d know Sam! This is the first place we’ve ever lived that we’ve noticed them - and now we know they’re there we see them everywhere as all the existing corners with them have effed up paintwork. Either bobbly or cracks (but this place hasn’t been painted in 20 years so that’s probably why it’s so pants). If Mark knows any local painters we can use next time then please send deets! X

Wow you guys know how to prep.... excellent! 😁👏 Great advice about the sanding blocks....we need these for so much gloss work 🙈. Plan a well earned treat/rest when the painting is done. Look back at what you've done/sorted since you moved in.....it's a lot 😳. Love watching you both.....great entertainment! Hope David's back is better....that can be painful....& Ian's patience is hanging in there 🥰

Thank you! Given the amount of white paint we ended up using we’re glad (or rather or bank balance is glad) that we didn’t go for the off white. And David had his heart set on a darker green for that wall since before we moved in, but the lighter one did make him waiver a few times!

Here's hoping David's back is feeling better! This brought back memories of a couple of years ago removing all the wallpaper in our house and prepping to paint everything. It was such hard work but It will be worth it in the end when you see your vision come to life. I can't wait to see the finished product!

Thanks Amy. I know we should feel a sense of achievement but it’s too soon after painting the whole flat for us to take the win! But we are so pleased with the end result. Just a few snags and bits of touching up to do - but that’ll have to wait for a few weeks.

What a great guide to the over 40’s on how not to decorate 🤣. Good tip on the thumb print, hope David is feeling better. I am a electrician and have installed alarm systems before. You can remove the cover on the sensor. There will be a limit switch inside that opens when the cover is removed , tape down that switch once you take the cover off ( once you reset the alarm) and it should not go off again . You can then access the screws holding the sensor to the wall

Painting and decorating is a nightmare! We had that bubble issue in the middle of a wall, so random. If your tile colour bothers you with being off white you can paint them, more decorating though 🥴. Look forward to seeing the green, must been frustrating when you just want to get it finished

It's been an eventful few weeks with all the storms. I'm in the part of the West Midlands that felt the earthquake and I thought something had hit the house, flying trampolines seeming to be the thing :/ You're doing great on the house though, it's going to look very fresh and clean.

We heard about the quake, Errol. On the news they said that people we awoken from the sleep... our first thought was how early people go to bed in the West Midlands! But then obviously we hoped everyone was ok!
