Greatest Ship I've had the privilege to sail on. She is definitely ONE of a kind!

I had the great fortune to work aboard her from 1986- 1988 (Circle Pacific Tour), then again in 1991-1992 (Gulf War). I worked in the casino as a croupier, then as Assistant Casino Manager for a bit. We did world cruises at that time. We were the first Western Cruise ship to visit Communist China, and the lucky of us had dinner with the Chinese Premier in the Great Hall of The People. I loved working on this ship, and when rejoining the ship in '91, had a crew cabin with my wife. These were the best years of my life. I adored the ship and her history. As an American casino crew member at the time, we had it much easier than the rest of the crew. Full use of pools, buffets, etc.... She was affectionately known as "Mom". She opened the doors to world travel for me, and at 61 years old now, I am still addicted to traveling the world. She was the most elegant ship afloat at the time, and there was a real sense of quality and history. My Captain was John Young, Commodore of the fleet (3 ships at the time) and he and I would walk the promenade together, discussing issues. What a time in my life!!! Jeff Tranchina.

I also worked on her, did two contracts on her in the 90's as Casino Slots Manager, great ship, perfect size, great crew and like you said great deck privilidges at the time. As one of the contracts was the baltic and scandinavian run I had a mountain bike onboard kept in my cabin, even cycled to northcap one day with one of the deck officers, great fun, still have the mountain bike. The pig was epic, but what goes in the pig ....stays in the pig.

Worked on this Royal for over a year...lovely ship. Sad it's gone along with the Pacifc and Island, Sea. All the original ones were so unique.

This is the one I sailed on, with Steve Dahl and Garry Meier. At the time I didn't know she was only 2 years old, and had been christened by Princess Diana. The new one doesn't look anything like it.

Royal Princess became Artemis with P&O then Artania with Phoenix-Reisen from 2011 until now
