I was 16 when this album came out & little did I know that just a few short months after this album was released I would run away from home and move 2000 + miles away & escape to California. 'Life will never be the same as it was again' I would sing this to myself so often during that time, it gave me strength

I love this song and the entire Waking up with the house on fire album, there are beautiful and great songs. I don't undestand why this single was only #32 in the Uk charts in the Christmas 1984.

Not just that but also supposedly didn’t do as well as the other albums too from what I’ve heard, along with “from luxury to heartache” album

"Often praised for his appearance but not his talent" - this has changed. At least I hope he feels better now - Ivor Novellos and many nominations, most of all the love of fans over decades (e.g. yours 😍). The appearance alone could not give him that. The music and the person O'dowd are much more inspiring. Your analysis of his music is so great, for me the magic of CC music is the combination of sad, honest, deep and meaningful lyrics with happy upbeat tune as you pointed out. Thank you!

Thank you! I appreciate that very much. And yes, I do think he's getting a little more respect for his talents these days- although I'm sure he wishes it was even MORE. He often complained about how George Michael, Sting, and even Simon LeBon were treated like national treasures and coveted songwriters while he was still being asked about his HAT. He's always been a musician first and a personality second, in my eyes.

@@MRDL236123 thank you for sharing your thoughts. He has chosen to live true, honest to himself, fight for human rights of a (relatively) small group of people and appreciate other talented but not widely appreciated artists. This can seldom be appreciated by the mass mainstream, if at all not instantly. During all those time he and music are always the best friends. For me his music and the person George are not separable, this entity is what I love and respect so much

@vayxanh...Anyone who says George was "praised for his appearance but not his talent" is another person who DOESN'T know what they're talking about and WASN'T THERE when they arrived. It was the OTHER other way around in reality, his appearance was criticized, but people liked his voice. They liked it enough for the band to become wildly popular (in spite of) or no matter what he was wearing!

@@MRDL236123 AGREE! Being a (great) musician first allowed his persona to rise above the "hub bub"!

A little Culture Club trivia 4 Ya. The Medal Song music video features an actress portraying a young Frances Farmer, struggling with fame and fortune, and finally dancing out of a padded cell, perhaps trying to salvage some sort of a happy ending to her sad life. This was played by no other than Jennifer Saunders from AB Fab (Absolutely Fabulous) she was only 20 at the time.

This is news to me. Are you sure of this? Source? I mean, it could be - but I've never seen even a young Jennifer Saunders as skinny as the woman in that video.

A nice moderate hit by George and Culture Club. One of George’s vocal performance are from this studio recording. His singing lessons really helped because he became such a technician in singing by Waking Up With The House on Fire. The key change in the bridge followed by the long run is amazing.

David, I was told one that besides the Extended Version and the Edit Version, there is a third version of Dont Go Down That's Street, can you tell me if this is true?
@MRDL2361235 жыл бұрын
There are at least TWO more versions, one on the Philippine "mistake no 3" single has one that is 4'32 and another on a South African "love is love" single (4'22), but both just fade out in different places, not edited or re-arranged or anything.
