Seeing Botley for the first time in roughly 17 years is like reuniting with an old friend❤️

Revisiting any JumpStart game in years is always like reuniting with old friends. The best example for me was DeeDee from Toddlers (2000). I had the game until about elementary school, then found videos of it on KZbin in 9th grade. Toddlers (2000) has a special place in my heart because it was the first JumpStart game I ever played.

@thanomyloans2585 it starts off at a school, though it's not really that important, since we just pick up the tool we need throughout the game. We play as the helper for a robot named Botley, on a mission to fix time after Professor Spark's daughter Polly Spark sends a bunch of his robots back through time to alter history so that she doesn't fail a history quiz.

This is so wild. I used to play this game on the computers at my local library when I was about 6. Twenty years later literally the only things I've clearly remembered were bits of the opening in the classroom ("the Statue of Licorice!") and, much more vividly, the bit in the art gallery around 1:25:00 about Georgia O'Keefe. It's crazy how much stuck with me from that: Botley's design, the room, the exact wording of the question, the way Mrs. Beasley says "GEORGia", the portrait of the artist being blue. So amazing to see it again.

@strawberrysoulforever83365 жыл бұрын
The constellation came first. "Cancer" was the Latin word for "crab". The terminal illness was named because it kept moving and growing further and further, like crab claws. However, if you find and remove the tumor early enough, it's curable. It's only if it's advanced cancer that it becomes harder to cure. My godmother had surgery for early cancer earlier this year and she's fine now. And my mother is having surgery for early breast cancer as I type (or possibly recovering - her surgery should've been over an hour ago).

The visuals and sounds of this game really leave an impression on your psyche when you're young. Super weird and awesome!

An orangutan as the president of the United States...who knew JumpStart was psychic? XD

Looked a little bit like Donald Trump in an ape costume if you ask me.

For the record, at this point I'd prefer an orangutan as president.

Really? There should be translators there to translate for the orangutan.

This takes me back, I played the game so much.. along with other Jumpstart games in the early 2000's, Now that I am older I can see these games while somewhat corny in their "delivery" are artifacts we can't forget, Seeing my nieces and nephews play these games also lets me know they have a "Jumpstart" on school.

Wow, this is such a blast from the past! I remember spending lots of time on this learning the various things the game had to offer. It really was good holistic education covering various topics. Looking back on it now, I'm amazed I was able to get through the entire game as a 2nd grader. I was more advanced from my classmates, though some topics completely blew over my head. The history section was the worst for me then. As a sidenote, the voice actor for the robot kid did a really good job. It only took me seeing this as an adult to appreciate the effort they put into it so as to sound realistic as opposed to stilted/disingenuous.

Funny thing about pogo sticks replacing cars: there's a Disney WWII cartoon about the same thing, except instead of cars not existing they just couldn't be used as often due to the army needing the gas more.

Should you ever find yourself in need again, there is a subreddit called "TipOfMyJoystick" for just this purpose. And it's a spooky coincidence you have an Osees album cover for a pic, I just went to that subreddit today after a video from Osees dummer Dan Rincon reminded me of Battlezone but I couldn't place the name. And then I came here because this is always a part of my nostalgia trips. Wild.
