The thing with the second aqua tuner bridge arrangement is that it always leaves a single packet of water waiting in the liquid bridge’s white input tile. That’s fine for super coolant, but for those of us who need to use P.Water, it means that packet will slowly get hotter and hotter, since even in ceramic there’s heat transfer, and eventually you get pipe damage unless you turn the aqua tuner off everyone once in a while to cycle out the packet. My base went through MANY iterations, sorry about it being in base ONI, haven’t gotten around to installing the dlc. By far the hardest part was keeping the steam room pressurized. Fun fact, old base did use only sieves, using the polluted dirt to boil into sand, which had absolutely garbage returns. I love this challenge, working on a base that not only deletes the bottom layer, but alos runs critterless, boiling even the bathroom water. Annoying fact. It takes 4 nat gas generators to grow a thimble reed in 2 cycles, at that point you could plant 16 wild reed for 4 times the reeds. I would not recommend depending on slickers, they are quite lag sensitive. You should add the rule 'no pip planting'. I mean, the point is to depend on methane. With pip planting, you can make a base totally self-sufficient. Plants for food, trees for power. Pokeshells for sand. One of the bases here was literally venting ethanol into space.
@jameshobbs91802 жыл бұрын
I'm sorry but that's like saying "No slicksters" or "No bristle berry" etc. As long as it doesn't require any additional imports besides the methane after set up anything goes. It just feels petty trying to limit people's imagination.
@TheMule712 жыл бұрын
@@jameshobbs9180 There's nothing wrong with slicksters, nat gas generators produce CO2, so they are part of the nat gat cycle. I'd argue "no wild critters", tho, the rationale being it's ok on a single base you create in sandbox/debug mode, but FJ is asking for a repeateable solution, to put a colony on each planet. You can't rely on having 200 wild slickster or wild dreckos, etc. in each base. So "pip planting" defeats the purpose of a base that depends on methane as input, as it allows for bases with NO inputs at all; "wild critters" defeats the purpose of a scalable solution for all the planetoid in survival. If you allow free spawning of critters in debug mode, then you can just drop wild voles in any base. They can stay in a 1x1 room, require no grooming, and you need only 1.6 of them per dup.
@FrancisJohnYT2 жыл бұрын
There is a difference between what people send in and what I will eventually end up using. But I'm not going to limit anyone's creative options for submissions. Since you have so much nuclear power going, if you utilize any designs with wild planted food crops, you could go with the juicy fruits mutates wild planted to slightly increase their yield by cutting 3 cycles off harvest time, or wild planted exuberants which would mature at the same speed as cultivated original plants. Whichever scenario is better (100%+3 cycles vs. 400%-3cycles), added benefit with exuberants in bristle blossoms being you don't have to run a light source. This is assuming fully automated harvesting with no dupe labor, of course. I think most every plant would be better as a wild exuberant vs. juicy fruits though. I just really want there to be a useful application for juicy fruits, lol

I loved the tour of all those brilliant designs. The thing I found odd was how many lacked maintenance access points and a lack of a start up system. Call me a pessimist bit I'd would insist on being able to access all those systems and have a coal backup to power the methane melting incase there was a glitch on loading or a supply interruption or something. Surprised everyone went with electrolysers. The 130g/s gas going straight into oxygen production per dupe seemed steep, before you even considered that you needed clean water for it (either sand or a contraption anyway). I didn't have time to finish mine, but I was planning building around a aquatuner with one end liquidising polluted oxygen, and the other boiling polluted water, for fresh oxygen and water respectively. The sublimator gets 67% from polluted dirt, getting 100g of polluted oxygen per tree (after composting to offset it's own dirt needed), and you have the option to recover most of the water by burning the ethanol*. Net result is 100g of oxygen from ~25 of polluted water, even without critters. I really wasn't fussed too much by the food. A single exuberant sleet wheat gets you 3200 calories per cycle with farming. A couple of dreckos (fed on peppernuts, so Aku is thanked) were how I was getting fibres anyway, partly because the phosphorite makes fertilising viable. That can bring your food expenditure way down pretty easily, and oxygen production seemed a far more substantial bottleneck to the 10 I was aiming for. Slicksters risked angering Aku in my mind**, because the tree ethanol slickster loop is already closed. With enough slicksters a tree produces polluted dirt at 150g/s with an entirely closed loop behind it, and polluted dirt can be survived on alone. For the same reason I avoided wild planting. Aku did not grant materials produced from a separate infinite loop. *If you are not going with mutated plants or fertiliser, nosh sprouts seem to work a bit better. The flat 200kg water for tofu kills it though when you can grow the plant in 2.125 cycles only using ~45 ethanol and ~12 dirt (and ~7 fertiliser). I really wanted the nosh sprouts to work out better. I guess for a super simple build with no critters or mutations it makes sense. Even a simple design could support 3 hungry dupes from 1kg/s methane (almost 4). **Incidently, so do pufts. A puft can turn the polluted oxygen into algae and polluted water, recovering more than enough polluted water to feed the tree if you burn the ethanol. Net result is free algae. Was irksome when I realised that, and had to reject that way of getting clean oxygen. Meant I found liquefaction works though. Pip hatch ceramic deodorisers are an interesting option too, and could give some surplus sand for lead suits too. Not run the numbers on if there is enough though. I suppose it would be around 6.5 kg sand produced per dupe oxygen consumption... Should be enough. TLDR: There is tons of play around sublimators, especially if you are already using trees.
@FrancisJohnYT2 жыл бұрын
There are way to many options, you can go full sublimators, liquify for clean O2, use a bunch of it for Pufts and then run Mushrooms!! I wonder if we could run a different food on every planet.

@@FrancisJohnYT I think so, but depending on how you draw lines some poor bastards are going to get stuck with mush fry! By my numbers it should be doable with 6 trees, 6 composts, boiling polluted water for cleaning, and you might have the margins for yucky lungs if torture is intended.

Instead of planting wheezeworts for the radiation to grow mutated crops, you can also wild plant mutated crops directly onto nuclear waste tiles. At ~2000kg per tile they give off more than enough radiation to keep them happy. With enough exuberant plants, I'm pretty sure you could sustain a colonies oxygen requirements with just offgassing polluted dirt. Actually, with wild planting, I'm sure the only thing a base really needs to be self sustaining is a sufficient energy source.

You don't really need to heat up molten slickster ranches. Molten slicksters spawn at 160 celcius and weight 400 kg so they can survive for quite a while in a cold environment. To kill a molten slickster you have to suck about 125MDTU out of them, which is more heat than a Batch of steel generates (93.5MDTU). I'd be curious to know the numbers possible with your slickster base. You said you get a whopping 89% of the polluted water back using the wood > ethanol > petrol generator setup. If you were to take the CO2 produced by the petrol generator, feed it to slicksters, then burn off that petrol, disregarding the needs for oxygen and bathrooms, how much water total would you be getting back? Can you make a water positive setup with that loop?

The original Idea was to have each colony produce a vital component and fire that at all the other colonies. Food, O2, Power, fertilizer, sand, cooling, industry. But that got messy to try and figure out in my head. The problem was since the whole system was interconnected you would have to build every colony first before you could start using any of them. Second idea fire basic resources at a planet like water and oil and let planets live off that. Almost went with just firing crude oil at every planet and have to boil it themselves. But that would have got boring replicating the boiler design on every planet. That's how we ended up on the idea of everything must come from AKU and all the planets send the output of their vents to a central location. Interesting challenge and allows for a variety of solutions. More fun to play and more fun to watch I think.

About that magma planet you need some more space on. What about building an infinite magma compressor? A box of airflow tiles down at the bottom. With a door compressor. Tungsten of course, though Thermium and Steel would probably still work. You could even make the door compressor reversible in a controlled way. Or a second one higher up. And use it with one of your volcano taming builds to turn the magma into a large source of igneous rock. Or have the robots build rows of airflow tiles down one by one compressing the magma to the bottom of the map. Then make a vertical tube of airflow tiles to allow the pressure to push the magma up to your magma cooling machine.

I'm not sure what I'm going to do with the magma this time, it takes way to long to pump it all out. Maybe I'll dump a bunch of freezing sulphur in it and see what happens :)

with hydras you can just dump a full 200kg bottle of liquid into a electrolyzer and it will work.

I was watching and wondering where the slicksters were 😂 if I had the time I think I'd design something similar to you

I wonder what the smallest base you can make that is self sufficient.

check out the minibase mod. I've tried a few times with one dupe on the smallest map.

All you really need is water so assuming you have a water vent you could make it pretty small. What's going to really hurt is enough storage to maintain water during vent dormancy.

Question: Can I open DLC save using non-DLC? I think my i5 laptop can't handle DLC.
@FrancisJohnYT2 жыл бұрын
Vanilla and DLC are incompatible for saves unfortunately.

so whats actually the netto power consumption for your sour gas boiler, as with the freezer methane? I am guessing, very low for what you achieve.... 2-3KW? (you will need the reactor to start it all, ...after two dubes on a wheel, not quiet, but close..) p. (@chat; I forgot about that tree"..pizza ;)

I hooked it up to 3 hydrogen generators in testing (2.4KW) and it ran for over a hundred cycles. Would not run on two hydrogen generators. Considering it produces at least 84KW of Methane I think it's a good trade. Question is can we get all the other pieces in place to use that much methane.

We need a discord where people can share their save game files. I would absolutely love to go through peoples bases and upload my own

There is actually a discord. Check out the About section of the channel, he has it linked there

The base at 35:16 -- does that 9 grams a second give enough water to keep a water cooler topped up?
@FrancisJohnYT2 жыл бұрын
That's about 5.4kg a cycle, only takes 1kg of water per use for the water cooler so you could use one.
