Geotune the geysers to get water faster. I think in your test map, the airflow tiles don't count for double layering because they aren't coded as real tiles (since they need to allow tiles of air in their space). Abyssalite will transfer heat with gas, but that isn't because of flaking, gas just has a multiplier to heat transfer to simulate the effect of convection. It might also involve the way the game has minimum temperature changes, and the mass of the tiles does affect whether the heat transfer can exceed that minimum.
@esven9263Ай бұрын
Keep in mind the geothermal generator isn't free, it's deleting 8% of the water you put through it. Feeding it at full load like you are right now with 30 kg/s will delete 1440kg of water per cycle. Essentially a 12x12 block of water gets deleted from your tank every 100 cycles as payment for using it. You have alternative means of producing heat, and if you stop using it for power you can actually check out some of the other stuff the geothermal generator can do. You can get materials like niobium, wolframite, and fullerene as impurities if you pass hot enough material through it for example and you've got a lot of gold which has a very low specific heat making it easy to heat up. I think you may have a gold volcano somewhere but I can't remember. Also given how long it's going to take to flood the map you should probably be considering vacuuming it out entirely at this point for performance, rather than letting gases into the oil biome again. Speeding up the game is going to mean a lot in the long run. In that same vein you can start knocking out some of your ladder scaffolding to simplify pathfinding calculations and you may want to trap anything that can fly in a small room since creatures like pufts and shine bugs can actually eat a lot of performance once you've opened up the map. I've noticed a lot of dupes just standing around between orders which usually means they're waiting in the queue for their turn to calculate pathfinding.
@ThePixelPearАй бұрын
He mentioned last episode that vacuuming out the map is actually worse for performance, at least for him. Pathing for dupes seems to be the best way to reduce lag

Most of the issue with gasses is having a whole bunch of them mingling and causing a lot of updates; most if not all of the gas on the map outside his base is just CO2, so shouldn't have much of an impact.

An alternative power source that could be fun and increase water production would be to geotune a saltwater source until it spits out lots and lots of steam. The salt it dumps out pays for a lot of the price of geotuning, too.

Using the geothermal generator to turn polluted/salt water into regular water actually decreases lost liquid, as the desalinater or other thing lose roughly 500g per 5000g iirc. ofc, boiling it the regular way is lossless, but you don't get power from that.

17:19 - say what? I'm pretty sure hot steam vents, like all other gas vents, overpressure at 5kg. What probably happened was that the water was bricked in, or the steam condensed on the debris, and then flashed back to steam as the vent erupted again. EDIT: ahh, corrected a few minutes later in the video 👍
@Tiggs153Ай бұрын
I'd vote against trying to get the water world quickly. Don't worry about doing extra things to produce more water. Rather than doing an overnight session to fill, I'd enjoy watching it fill gradually as other projects happen. I like the idea of tracking the water in the chimney. I am enjoying the prep, but given how much room is in the water chimney, I'm hoping you can work on other projects in the next couple episodes. It looks like adding the downstairs will almost double the space in the water tank. Well, unless you want to try the frozen water world idea from the other comment, then there's reason to fill quickly :P
@drunken7634Ай бұрын
For the steam vents, you could make a separate room with a “heat injector” and metal tiles on each side so the 500 C steam doesn’t have the opportunity to warm up that separate room and have that steam turbine bring that water back into the room as normal
@Bluelink13Ай бұрын
As for pressure damage: The way it works is that tiles that can take pressure damage will do so according to the next formula (Liquid Mass Per Tile)*(1+Thickness of the wall*Type of tile multiplier*Material of tile multiplier). Each type of tile (Normal, Insulated, Metal, etc) has a related multiplier, generaly 1 for most of them, while each material has another associated value between 0.2 (Sedimentary Rock) and 2.5 (Diamond) which means the material tends to have the most effect on the overpressure value of a tile. Sadly these values are only in game files, but the page on liquids of the wiki has them listed.
@Bluelink13Ай бұрын
Admmendum: The formula of course only applies for 1 and 2 tile thick walls, 3 thick walls are immune to pressure damage
@Bluelink13Ай бұрын
Just for an example, a 2 thick wide Diamond (2.5) Window tile (1.0) wall on water would overpressure at (1k*(1+2*1*2.5))=6k KG of water. The most resistant possible wall that is not 3 thick would be a Steel (2) Bunker Tile (10) wall, for (1k*(1+2*10*2)) = 41k KG of water for overpressure.

Have you tried putting mercury in the steam rooms? It conducts heat super well as liquids have the huge multiplier so I'm planning on putting a layer of mercury on the bottom to pull heat away from the aquatuner and make it easier for the steam to absorb it by giving more surface area. It also has a ridiculously high conductivity as a gas and is heavier than steam. Imo mercury is super underrated. Anyways, love the series so far!
@DriwChannelАй бұрын
7:41 it's not safe using liquid in top because if the tank for some reason became low level could move the blod, but gases generelly will be forced to there and this case using airlock doors to avoid pressure. @edit you could use a liquid pressure on liquid pumps to avoid low level too
@AdirelleАй бұрын
IMO at 5:43 the airflow tiles act as empty space with regard to pressure, hence the pressure damages to the insulated tiles.

Regarding the vertical transit tube ports with high-pressure water below them, there's a solution to the issue of the water level potentially dropping: Just stick the joint down into a "cup"-shaped set of airflow tiles. Then if the water level drops, some water still stay in the cup and keep the visco-gel in its proper place.

Unfortunately, you need to have a way in and out, no point allowing dupes access, if there is no egress.

For increasing water production, are geotuners base game? If so, five geotuners can target the same vent for a total of 100% output increase (20% each). Tuning water vents requires bleach stone, for which the bleach stone hopper is basically free - you have a gold volcano and all your desalination is producing no end of salt. Plus, turning all the water vents into weirdly shaped steam vents by increasing their output temperatures may or may not simplify things depending upon your perspective.

Your last sentence hit the nail on the head, a lot of extra heat would need to be mitigated. FJ doesn't need more water production, what he really needs is more water useage, it is inevitable that he is gonna have to pump a lot of excess water into space.
