In 9 ball its anywhere on table for scratch an everything else. In 8 ball the only time you shoot behind the line from a scratch is off the break this is common rule amongst all elite billard league rules. Most places that have the behind the line at every scratch are usually bar leagues or house rules

If you do decide to play this again you can combo the 9-ball in early to win. That would speed up rounds. Its not like 8 ball where you have to make them all first just has to hit the legal ball first in 9-ball

Fruit, just adding another comment to hopefully let you know that in 9 ball, as long as you lowest numbered ball first, anything else that goes in after that is legal. If 9 ball goes in after you hit the lowest numbered ball, you just win immediately.
