I have always done this, slice of bread or a piece of apple to soften or rehydrate things. Plus is you have stale crackers, chips or cereal put it on a cookie sheet and stick it in the oven on 300 for about 3 to 5 minutes and they will be crispy again.

Love your Family! Elana is a joy to watch and cute as a button. She is so smart. Try cooking your cookies 8 to 9 mins or Put all your dry ingredients, ( Flour, baking soda, and spices ) in a bowl and set aside. In a larger bowl Cream the butter and sugar together for 2 mins with mixer, then add your egg and blend. Add your treacle and milk mix. Once that is mixed add your dry ingredients into the wet and mix just until blended. Bake as usual but I would still check them after 8 to 9 mins to check for doneness. Hope this helps.. I am craving a gingerbread cookie now.. Yummy

Well done, Elana and Mrs. H!! I don't think I've ever seen Smarties like yours. We have some candy called Smarties but yours look more like Skittles. We usually decorate them with gum drops or some Red Hots which are a cinnamon candy that I think Mr. H has tried. If not, just some dabs of icing work as well. To get them softer, add a bit more milk so your dough isn't as crumbly but not too much. Also the more flour you need to roll them out will make a difference

Great video! I'm glad you are encouraging Elana to learn cooking. I'm afraid my wife wasn't very good at cooking. Her mother discouraged her helping in the kitchen, so it wasn't her forte. I did the cooking for my small family(wife/daughter). 👍❤
@daricetaylor737Күн бұрын
I was surprised at your gingerbread recipe! I have never seen it made without adding eggs. I have always used an egg in our recipe, not sure if that maybe is one reason the dough you made was acting so dry and cracking. Maybe try next time adding 1 egg to the dough and see if that helps. Also, I put 1/2 tsp baking soda and 1 tsp baking powder. The baking soda creates an initial rise as it combines with the molasses, then the baking powder creates a secondary rise in the baking process creating a softer chewier texture to the gingerbread. Wonderful job! Frosting gingerbread and sugars cookies at Christmas time is a lovely family tradition that Elana will do someday with her own babies!

Here's our family recipe, Cora Beardmore’s Gingerbread Cookies This is the "chewy" gingerbread cookie recipe that has been passed down in the Beardmore family for six generations. It is said to be the original recipe created by Cora Beardmore (1870-1946). Unlike ginger snaps, these cookies are soft and chewy. These have traditionally been a Christmas favorite over the decades, and my personal favorite cookie of all time. Ingredients 3⁄4 Cup Shortening, Butter or Margarine 2 Cups Sugar 2 Eggs (Whole) 3 Cups Sifted All-Purpose Flour 2 tsp Baking Soda 1⁄2 tsp Vanilla 2 tsp Cinnamon 1 tsp Cloves 1⁄2 tsp Nutmeg 1 TBSP Ginge r 1⁄2 Cup Molasses (mild) Directions Cream shortening (or butter/margarine) until light & fluffy, and then add sugar gradually. Add two eggs, one at a time, blending completely after each. Sift all dry ingredients together and blend into mixture. Add vanilla and molasses, mixing in well. For each cookie, drop 1 tsp on an un-greased cookie sheet. Cook at 3500 for approximately seven minutes. Bake longer for crunchier cookies, shorter for chewier.

If you get some shish kebab sticks and five or six different sized star shaped cookie cutters you can make a X-Mas tree out of cookies. (I use a sugar cookie recipe) Poke the holes in before baking. Then mix runny frosting (powdered sugar, vanilla and water) and drizzle it down the tree. Follow with colored sugar to make it pretty. 😊
